Maxwell outduels Douglas to win 200m final
Mia Maxwell provided an extra gear to beat out Shanoya Douglas and win the 200m final at the 2026 U20 World Championships, with twin sister Mariah earning bronze.

And even though the Jamaican was desperate, desperate to reverse that one-two, she is sandwiched between the Maxwell twins, who have a wonderful embrace here.
What a future for these two young women.
Maxwell knew, she knew that had to be a perfect race and a perfect execution because she wasn't as fast as Douglas, but she caused tension in the Jamaican's shoulders and capitalized brilliantly.
She's never run faster, and she has never earned her place in the history books more than this.
The first US woman under 20 to do it in style on home soil.
This is a night she'll never forget.

Rob, it was fascinating because Douglas was as good as Maxwell in the first 100.
That was the first surprise of the race.
But then when Mia got alongside of her with about 70 to go, Douglas tightened, Maxwell relaxed, and stormed away.

We thought Maxwell would get up to Douglas pretty quickly.
It wasn't to be.
Douglas, Rob, and Rosie got out really well for her.
She ran a brilliant race and a great bend, and at this point, you thought it would go right down to the line.
But Douglas started getting tense, and Maxwell's form held beautifully.
That's why she won the race.
It absolutely is.
Both Maxwell twins are so proficient technically.
They are so, so strong.
Look at them both here.
And Mariah closed- Brilliant sprinting didn't she?

Well, the Americans, Rob, Maxwell and Tate Taylor, Mia, and TT, eh?
They've done the double-double.
We're gonna always link them together.
It was a night for American sprinting in so many ways.
Think back to that 110 hurdles.
Think to the 100, 200 doubles that have never been done before.
She's a good sport, Douglas.
She's got a huge future in front of her.

She made it a brilliant contest, but when the pressure came on the inside from Maxwell, she just didn't quite have it to find another gear.
It's extraordinary how long these sprinters have been going this season as well.
I mean, high school competition, we talked about Taylor breaking Noah Lyles' high school record, and then all the NCAAs, and then to come back for a championship here, and then to peak again.
It's a special gift, isn't it?
