McLean Gave New York A Solid Start Yesterday, But There’s Still Work To Be Done
The New York Mets got Nolan McLean turned around yesterday, even though he struggled with his control at times.

Not, not excited to hear about that.
It's, not where we wanna be.
And as is the clich statement you hear around sports a lot, I mean, the best ability is availability.
So just looking past his rookie season, which was the COVID year, in that season he played 56 of 60 games, came in second in rookie de- vo- in Rookie of the Year voting, won a Gold Glove Award.
And since then, 2021 to now, he has played over 110 games in a season just once.
That was 2023.
So you've seen what Robert can give you in the scope of a full season.
In 2023, he played 145 games, so not quite a full season, but enough games to where you can kind of get a gauge for what he would give you in a full season.
And it's hard because, again, you know that k- we were just having this discussion about Logan Ohapi in our Angels show.
I mean, you know what a guy can get to when you see him in a full healthy season.
You see kind of the potential of what he's gonna be, and then it's just hard knowing you have a guy that's super talented, but he just can't stay on the field.
Yeah.
I think it gets into that argument again about how long will you stick with the mentality of seeing what that guy can give you from seeing a flash in the pan to finding a different guy that's consistent and/or just not, and/or requiring consistency from him.
So it is a very strange, like, dichotomy 'cause there's, there's weighing on this side that he's phenomenal, but there's weighing on this side that it doesn't matter when he's not on the field, which I think was the main concern.
We already touched on that.
It's like you could pay him so much money, it's just not gonna matter if he's hurt.
And I mean, going back to kind of our discussion just a couple of minutes ago, I mean, really the one way to put this is when it rains, it pours.
because if Luis Robert and only Luis Robert was injured, obviously it sucks, but you have the rest of the lineup to kind of pick up that slack.
but I mean, again, a lot of guys are also hurt.
Lindor's hurt right now, Polanco, Jared Young, we touched on all those guys.
Juan Soto has missed time this season, so I mean, it's just, you know, the Mets really just can't catch a break right now it feels like.
