NC State Coach Search: Dickert, Satterfield and Philip Rivers in the Mix

NC State is hunting for a new football coach after parting ways with Dave Doeren following more than a decade in charge. Wake Forest's Jake Dickert (15-5 since taking over) leads the list of possible 2027 replacements, with Cincinnati's Scott Satterfield, a North Carolina native with winning records at multiple programs, close behind. James Madison's Billy Napier and Indiana defensive coordinator Bryant Haynes, whose defense ranked fifth nationally in scoring defense in 2026, are also in the conversation. Former Wolfpack quarterback Philip Rivers has come up too, but he would be a risky hire: his only coaching experience is at St. Michael Catholic High School in Alabama, and his son Gunner is already committed to NC State.
