NFL Faces Gambling Issues: Cardinals Executive Suspended
NFL suspends an Arizona Cardinals exec, Ryan Gold, for insider draft betting, raising alarms on the league's gambling connections. The NFL needs to do more.

All right.
So more news in the NFL, and I think this is gonna become more of an issue as we go further along here in the relationship that the NFL has with gambling.
It is not now on the players any longer.
The National Football League has suspended Arizona Cardinals executive personnel director.
He's head of all college scouting.
Ryan Gold was suspended by the National Football League for insider information.
He was doing this on the night of the draft.
He was doing prop bets, allegedly, and betting on who the team was going to pick, and sending out prop bets on who the team was going to pick, and doing these prop bets.
He violated the NFL's gambling policy.
This is not a player any longer.
This is now an executive that had inside information.
You know what's crazy is we just come out of the Brandon Soulsby story on how the NFL is so guarded when it comes to gambling.
Well, with their relationship with all these gambling sites, did you not think eventually collateral damage was going to happen?
Hey, you got in business with gambling now, and this is gonna be some of the stuff that's gonna start hitting the league.
You know, it's one thing to sit there and say that a player could have inside information on who's gonna be healthy and who's not gonna be healthy for a respective game on the weekends.
You now have executives inside the organization of a football team making those decisions.
How do you guard against this?
You can't.
Roger Goodell, as good a job as he's done with the National Football League, I mean, you could say whatever you want about Goodell, I'm not a big fan of his, but look at the wealth of the league.
The league has now gotten into bed with gambling, and they are now hitched at the t- at the hip with gambling.
You got an NFL owner in Robert Kraft who's involved with a gambling site and involved with high stakes with DraftKings, and a big investor in DraftKings.
What did you think was gonna happen?
You know, you keep telling people that the NFL, we're gonna keep an eye on this.
We're gonna go down the right lane here, making sure that the game is held with integrity.
How in the world can you sit there and tell me that the National Football League is gonna guard its integrity when you're involved with one of the things that damages the integrity of the game, and that is gambling?
And now you're telling people that you're involved with DraftKings and FanDuel, and you're knee-deep in it with them, and you're doing all the fantasy football leagues.
Folks, they created fantasy football for you to gamble on the sport to keep you engaged in television ratings.
Do you understand that?
36 to 10 blowouts at the end of football games, and the TV ratings haven't moved.
Why is that?
Gambling.
Because you have prop bets on many of the players that you're hoping will score for your fantasy football league.
That's exactly why the NFL is knee-deep in it.
Plus, it's another revenue source for the NFL owners.
Man, you talk about really a lot of collateral damage that's on the horizon.
