Game five in the books, and it's the Carolina Hurricanes with a 3-2 series lead after a 4-2 win in this game five contest.
And, penalties certainly the name of the game.
But Ryan, what was the reaction in that Carolina room?
Because certainly they've got all the momentum going into this chance to close it out in Vegas.
Yeah, the power play was huge for them.
Andrei Svechnikov, who had a pair of, tallies on the man advantage said, you know, they had a shooter's mentality, a shooting mentality, and, and maybe something that they didn't have earlier on.
But that power play has really been good for them the past few games.
And a- and what was interesting to me is, overall, Coach Rod Brind'Amour, you definitely got the sense that he wasn't satisfied with the win.
You know, somebody asked him if this was, like, the, the best version of Hurricanes hockey that we've seen.
He was like, "After the first period."
You know, he did not like their first period.
They had two penalties.
Vegas easily could've taken advantage, did not, and then obviously Carolina took over from there.
Very interesting, because we've seen Carolina dominate the first period and kinda swoon in the second in the series.
This time it was the opposite.
Vegas outshot them in the first, and Carolina came on in the second.
So very interesting.
But, you know, again, like, going back to Brind'Amour, he was saying they've got They can be better, and they're gonna have to be better if they wanna close this out.
Yeah, it's not often when you have an offensive dynamo like Nick Ehlers be a story positively, but also take two puck over glass penalties.
Yeah.
And Vegas couldn't capitalize, and certainly penalties on their side was the name of the game.
They couldn't capitalize on those chances early.
But really, the turning point, William Karlsson, ever since he's been back from injury this year, has been so vital in all the situations that he plays, how he stabilizes the, the line with Marner as well in the playoffs.
And without him gone, you can see that deflate on the ice there.
a- at that point, even John Tortorella acknowledged that their momentum kinda died with those penalties, and it happened right when they lost Bill as well.
Mm-hmm.
So they have to figure that out, and acknowledging the fact that he's probably gone for the series.
He left the building for further evaluation, and it's probably not something he can play through.
However, John Tortorella, in projecting confidence to his group, says that they're gonna come back here, it's just the order's gonna be different, forcing a game seven, even going as far as to say that he'll leave his clothes here in Raleigh.
We're not gonna do that- but we're certainly gonna be along for the ride as long as this goes.
It's gonna be interesting.
