Niners’ Fred Warner Declares Super Bowl Defensive Goals

Nbc Sports Bay Area reporter Jennifer Lee Chan caught up with four-time first-team All-Pro linebacker Fred Warner at his annual youth football camp in San Mateo this weekend.
Preparing to enter his ninth professional season, he didn't hesitate when asked to evaluate the physical progression of the defense's underlying roster layer, pinpointing a handful of playmakers primed to make a leap in twenty twenty-six.
He said, "We've got a lot of guys who are due to make that jump on the defensive side.
You talk about Upton Stout and the things that he brought to our defense at the nickel position.
Love his game, love who he is as a person.
Can't wait to see what he does going into this year."
Stout's rapid ascent into the system has already caught the attention of defensive coordinator Raheem Morris as well.
Morris joked that it's nearly impossible to get Stout to crack a smile on the practice field, but emphasized that his intensity and serious demeanor has allowed him to rapidly absorb the complex structural details directly from Warner's veteran baseline.
While the secondary features fascinating individual growth, Warner is equally ecstatic about the defensive line.
He said, "A three-headed monster at D-line in Alfred Collins, C.J.
West, McKell Williams coming off of injury.
I think all three of those guys have an opportunity to really take a next step.
McKell, even coming off the ACL, I think his mindset, the way he looks right now, I think he'll be great when he does come back.
I think all those guys are going to do really good this year."
And finally, Jo- General Manager John Lynch executed a highly calculated off-season trade to secure veteran defensive tackle Osa Odighizuwa, and this is what Warner said about him.
"Osa's been great.
I think everybody's kind of sung his praises because of how he's come in and he's worked, and he's just been steady Eddie, Mr.
Consistent.
That's what we need for our team, and especially at that position, and I think he'll do a great job.
I've heard nothing but great things and seen nothing but great things when he was in Dallas and being disruptive on the inside, and we're going to need that in a big way for what we're trying to do on defense."
