Padres Sweep Cubs 4-1, Advance to NLDS Against Brewers

The San Diego Padres beat the Chicago Cubs 4-1 on Wednesday to finish a two-game sweep of the National League Wild Card Series. Gavin Sheets delivered the big blow, a pinch-hit two-run homer off Daniel Palencia, and the San Diego bullpen allowed just three baserunners over the final 5 2/3 innings. Xander Bogaerts put together another strong series at the plate, and Michael King set the tone with seven scoreless innings in Game 1. Next up: the Milwaukee Brewers, owners of the best record in Major League Baseball, with Game 1 of the NLDS set for Saturday in Milwaukee.
