What Kyle Schwarber's been able to do at the plate so far this season is exceeding even his own expectations and standards, as he really is putting together a historic season for the Philadelphia Phillies.
On Sunday afternoon against the New York Mets, he hit his 30th home run of the season.
Yes, on June 28th, weeks before the All-Star break, just about the halfway point of the season, Schwarber hit his 30th home run of the season, and he's the first one in MLB to hit that mark in 2026.
And he also made a little bit of Philadelphia Phillies franchise history in the process as well.
With him hitting his 30th home run of the season, he's the fastest player in franchise history to hit 30 home runs in a year.
And he also, looking at it, is the th- third, has the third most 30 or more home run seasons, just trailing Ryan Howard, who has six, and Mike Schmidt, who has 13.
And Schwarber also has the third most consecutive 30 plus home run seasons for the Phillies, again, trailing Ryan Howard, who has six, and Mike Schmidt, who has nine.
And that just goes to show the incredible season that Schwarber's putting together right now.
After the game, he was asked about this, and he said back in 2017 when he hit 30 home runs for the first time, he always kinda thought that was a cool number to get to and shows that that's a elite type player, and he's just very thankful that he's been able to hit that mark so early on in the season.
But he also credited the rest of his team, saying that those players out on the field, knowing that Schwarber is primarily a designated hitter, are the ones that really help the team win the game.
And I think at this point, looking at what Schwarber's been able to do, and we'll look at what the Phillies have been able to do and turn their season around, it's very clear that the Phillies' overall success on the season is pretty directly tied to Schwarber's success at the plate.
And right now, if he continues to swing the bat like this, who knows where the Phillies could end up with at the end of the year?
