Phillies Skipper Gives Zack Wheeler Update After Recent Workout

Philadelphia Phillies' Zack Wheeler "felt good" after recent bullpen session.

Video Transcript

Zack Wheeler still has a long way to go before rejoining the Philadelphia Phillies starting rotation, but it does feel like he's checking every box along the way and making nice progress in his rehab.

Rob Thompson said that on Thursday, Wheeler ended up throwing a bullpen session and looked, quote, "really good in that workout."

Quote, "Phillies skipper said it was very good.

He's been recovering pretty well.

A couple of days ago, we identified possibly today.

He came in, he felt good, so he went after it."

All in all, the Phillies pitcher ended up throwing twenty-one total pitches, with most of those being fastballs and sinkers.

But Thompson said that the velo was good, and the ball flight was good, too.

Now, it's great to hear that Wheeler was feeling good on the mound, but with many workouts, one of the bigger and biggest overall takeaways is how the pitcher feels the next day, and that's really where Philadelphia sits in this wait-to-see kind of game, with seeing how Wheeler comes into camp tomorrow and res-- his body responding to this workout.

Philly skipper said he thought it was great.

He felt great.

We'll check with him tomorrow and find out how he's feeling and get a plan going moving forward.

I still think the Phillies are wise to slow play and be very cautious with Wheeler's rehab.

Yes, it may seem like he's feeling great right now, but he still is thirty-five years old and is coming off major shoulder surgery.

So it'll be interesting to see whether or not he, it makes an early return to the rotation throughout the season, or if they wait, knowing that they're gonna need him later on into the season and into the playoffs as well.
