Pittsburgh Penguins 2026-27 Player Projections: Sergei Murashov

Sergei Murashov looks poised to make the Pittsburgh Penguins roster out of training camp. How will he do during the regular season?

Video Transcript

Goalie-wise, I feel like we know which two goalies are going to make the team.

But Joel Blomqvist will still try and push Sergei Merzlov.

He's still gonna try to make the team.

I still think he's probably gonna be the guy in Wilkes-Barre.

But you know, if had to say right now it'll more of a 1A, 1B of Arti Silovs and Sergei Murashov at start of the season unless Murashov has a flat out awful camp in preseason or Blomqvist just completely blows everyone away honestly.

Yeah.

Yeah, and I mean, I wouldn't count Taylor Gautier out of that mix too.

I don't nece- I just, I don't think he's gonna make the NHL roster.

But something to consider too is that Taylor Gauthier has missed the last two training camps because of injury, so he's kind of been in a disadvantageous position in the last two years to really make some noise, but he's been dominant at the ECHL level for a couple seasons now.

He's been pretty good in his AHL minutes as well.

If I had to guess, I mean, I don't think it's much of a mystery that who the goaltending tandem is probably gonna be unless Murashov absolutely bombs in camp.

I don't think there's a way that it's not gonna be him and She loves.

Yeah.

But again, you mentioned it, don't count Joal Bloomquist out of this.

This is a guy who the Penguins still think is going to be an NHL goalie tender.

They think he's gonna be a serviceable NHL goalie tender.

If he comes out and blows everyone out of the water in camp, it's not a guarantee that Murashov makes it.

I think it's all but a guarantee that sure Murashov makes this roster.

But if Blomqvist pushed, it's gonna make some decisions interesting there too.

Because I mean also too, if you're looking at Shelove, then I don't think they'd start with Murashov and Blomqvist if we're being realistic.

No.

But you know, it's It, is this a situation too, if Sheloves has weak camp, and just throwing like crazy hypotheticals out there, if Sheloves has a week camp, and say Murashov, Blomqvist come out and just absolutely blow everybody away, I wouldn't, I wouldn't necessarily rule out entirely 100%, it's like a .05 chance of happening, but I wouldn't entirely rule out them potentially starting with three goaltenders.

We saw that a couple seasons ago, with Alex Nedeljkovic, Joar Blomqvist, and Tristan Jarry.

For about a few weeks there, they did carry three goaltenders early in the season, because Nedeljkovi came out of training camp with an injury.

Blomqvist came up for his first NHL stint.

He was really good on that first stint.

They decided to keep Blomqvist around once Nedeljkovi came back.

They carried three goaltenders for a hot second there.

So I don't think that's gonna happen again.

Like, that's a very low likelihood.

But just like these other positions, I, I don't, I don't think anything's set in stone, so to speak.

And if Blomqvist comes out and has the camp of his life and Murashov has a camp that's deserving of making the NHL roster, do I think they're gonna waive Artie Shelobs?

No.

Do I think Artie Shelobs is gonna make the team?

Yes.

Yeah.

But what do you do?

You know, they have some flexibility here.

I still think they're probably gonna end up carrying 14 forwards, if- Sure if I had to guess.

But you never know
