Pittsburgh Steelers Could Bring Back Fan-Favorite LB
Rob Gregson explains why Elandon Roberts could return to Pittsburgh after being released.

The Pittsburgh Steelers' 53-man roster is initially set for the 2026 season, and fan favorite linebacker E. Landon Roberts is no longer with the team, but there is a chance that he comes back.

Going from 90 players to 53, the Steelers have their initial roster set.
Early on on Sunday, there was a report, the Steelers obviously verified it when they released their roster, that E. Landon Roberts was going to be released.
And a lot of fans, a lot of people, a lot of media members, myself included, were kind of confused, kind of, shocked almost that the Steelers would release a player who they just signed a few weeks ago.
We saw him in the preseason, and he was destructive, just obliterating.
It looked like varsity versus JV out there against opposing offensive linemen and running backs.
And someone who is familiar with the Steelers and that defense, given the fact that he played with Patrick Graham in Las Vegas.
Why in the world would the Steelers release him?
Well, in my opinion, a lot of times this has to be something known as procedural, where E. Landon Roberts is a vested veteran, meaning he's played four more total seasons in the NFL.
He doesn't have to go through waivers like the young guys do, or the people who haven't played those m- or as many seasons.
He can be resigned at any time.
Now, there's some mixed messaging, some mixed signals on whether the Steelers wanna keep eight total linebackers versus nine.
Will Landon be back?
Will he won't be back?
I just have a tough, tough time believing that a player of his caliber, a player who knows the scheme inside and out, a player who knows Pittsburgh inside out, a player who is healthy, has fresh legs, just went in and dominated the preseason, won't be back with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Especially when you consider how dynamic things are and how much things change.
It's just the way the NFL works.
So just because E. Landon Roberts is released, just because he's gone, doesn't mean it's going to stay that way.
Of course, it could be.
The Steelers could decide that they like their initial 53-man roster, but E. Landon Roberts could be on his way back very soon.
