PODCAST: How Impressive is the Niners' Win over the Browns?
Did the 49ers truly dominate, or did the Browns' limitations mask their real playoff readiness? A deep dive into their convincing victory.
Video Transcript
The streak is over.
The 49ers finally win a game in Cleveland.
A 26 to 8.
Pretty dominating performance, Jason, as the Niners moved to 9-4 on the season.
Into their bye week.
Uh, Jason, we had this game circled very, very early on as a concern.
And really, all the concerns were there, the weather, Cleveland's good defense, all that stuff.
And the Niners blew through it like, like it was no issue.
So, so very impressive win for the Forty-Niners today.
Yeah, and I think its more of an indication too, that the, You know, the Browns' offense is awful, and they're just...
They're just a bad football team.
And as long as the 49ers hold on, You know, this is the kind of win they should have had the last time they played there If the idiot kicker makes the kick, right?
So, like this, This should never have taken two more years for this to get done.
Um, the 49ers have always been better than the Browns, you know.
They do have an imposing defense, and you know, I, I was told about Miles Garrett.
Cleveland Ferrell: 2 sacks, Miles Garrett: 1.
Somebodys washed, in my opinion.
Yeah, I knowa very impressive performance by the 49ers' offensive line.
Only one sack by the Browns as a whole.
I mentioned it in the NinersNation.com article.
That, uh, Miles Garrett had as many sacks in the last four games as the Niners had this season.
13 to 13.
And it really isn't just Miles Garrett, right?
There, there's Malcom Collins, Like, obviously a former 49er, he's had a good year, 6.5 sacks.
Mason Graham looked good, too.
Mason Graham looked good as well.
They have guys who can get after the Quarterback, and they lead the AFC in sacks, and the Niners held them to one sack.
And, and, and its not like it was, you know, a run-the-ball-a-lot game.
The Niners threw the ball 30 times McCaffrey had one pass attempt.
Uh, that was a throwaway, so it's 30, not 29.
But really, a 50/50 split, and truly what's impressive is the Niners had no run game, No running game whatsoever.
Uh, 33 carries for ninety.
90 yards, uh, Christian McCaffrey, 20 carries for 53 yards total.
Total: Bryan Robinson 8 for 26, but the Niners offense, they, They held up well.
The offensive line held up well.
There was, at the start of the third quarter, some pressure coming in from that defense.
Line, but the 49ers' offensive line held strong.
Uh, Brock Purdy looked pretty decent.
He looked, He looked fine enough to win the game, but really, what this comes down to is, I think a The combination of the 49ers' defense played well and Cleveland's offense struggled badly.
I was actually really impressed with Brock Purdy, especially coming off last week.
Um, the windy conditions, that defense.
You know, I did write, um, my article "Fernandez Nation," in which I said that, You know, the intermediate is where you have to attack the Cleveland Browns' offense.
I believe they were 21st in the NFL, and EPA on intermediate throws.
And that's where it seemed Brock was going.
Obviously, you weren't going to throw the football down the field.
Given the wins and everything, but... That's exactly where Brock lived, and you You know, for all the talk, this game was a bit one-dimensional when you're Not running the football, Brock was good, man.
I think he was very good in this game, and it's Like a stark difference from what we saw last week, And we're talking about a guy who had to throw the football.
There was no training-wheels offense in this game.
Um, he looked very good and made throw after throw when he needed to.
That, I think, that.
That drive before the second half really calmed things down and began to put the 49ers in a position where they even looked at each other like, Man, we're definitely better than them.
Let's go out and finish this thing.
Like, and that's the type of momentum that they got from that drive.
So, um, I want to say, I want to say that Brock Purdy was good today.
Very good in certain aspects.
Yeah, I liked it.
It was a slow start.
It really was a slow start for the whole team.
Uh, Kar, thank you for the donation.
Cleveland Ferrell.
Great pickup.
He will, we'llI'm sure we'll talk about him.
Here in a second, um, but Brock Purdy, it was a slow start for really the whole 49ers Offense, and I think there was a case to be made through the first half, Shad Sanders was outplaying Brock Purdy, uh, but then Purdy really settled down throughout The second half.
He looked good; he was moving well.
I think that was really good.
The best thing for me is how well he moved.
Cleveland was getting into the backfield, not super early in, In place, but he was still moving well in the pocket.
Moving around, making Cleveland move around with him.
So, that was my big takeaway.
I thought Purdy looked good in that aspect.
Well as moving around.
Uh, but let's also, before I forget, as well, Jason, The special teams.
Special teams outplaying Cleveland.
Uh, sky.
Moore starts the game with that 66-yard punt Return, setting up the Niners' first touchdown.
Matt Gay has a doing that goes through it.
We've seen a doing go many other ways, Jason, especially with certain kickers in Cleveland in the past.
But then it really comes down to Cleveland's mistakes.
Uh, they start the second half with kickoff return caught out of bounds at the edge 5-yard line, pinning them back.
Niners almost got a safety out of it.
And then the Cleveland punt returner, whose name I should have right in front of me.
Uh, I don't have it in front of me now, uh, 84 Larvadane, Gage Larvadane had a fumble early in the game, then a muff picked up by Darrell Luter, and that sets up really the Niners' game winning touchdown.
The touchdown to Juwan Jennings, not game winning, but it really puts the game away.
I'm not used to the Niners' special teams dominating these games.
But I think it's something.
Thirteen games in the season, we should be used to now.
Yeah, Brian Boucher, thanks for the donation.
Cleveland gives us the best gifts in the NFL.
Three straight drives inside their 40-yard line.
Stress level dropped from 100 down to 15.
It's true that game, after that one, drive where all Cleveland did was run the Football, run the football, run the football, Run the football.
And then you have that coverage bust with Luke Gifford, who, By the way, was on the field because the 49ers are out of freaking linebackers at this point, You know, Nick Martin got hurt as well in this game.
But, um, it really started to feel like, OK, like this is one of those games where if You let them hang around; this can kind of twist.
That's why I said that drive before halftime, it really settled things, and I know it Only made it 10-8, but it also just let the 49ers know, and I think they needed Of recalibrate and say, listen, man, we are better than them, and we're gonna finish this.
So, I do think that as well, and you know, This is the formula for the 49ers to win.
Special teams play, you know, you're going to have to make a play or two on defense.
And you're gonna have to cash in on those, on those short fields, and, And that's complementary football, and that's something that we're seeing from the 49ers.
The first time in a long time.
Special teams set up a drive for a touchdown, Defense on a fumble sets up a new drive Touchdown!
49ers' offense takes advantage.
That's how you win football games.
That's how you play well in all three phases.
And I think the 49ers did that today.
Yeah, and really, that whole sequence of plays, Jason, After that Big Ten play, 90-yard touchdown scoring drive, Going into the second half as well, because technically, that, That, uh, I mean, not even technically, literally the drive right before the half was The game-winning score was 49ers 10th point; Cleveland didnt get past eight.
So that was the game-winning drive for the 49ers, but then the two teams swapped punts.
To start the second half.
Cleveland gets the ball, and I don't necessarily disagree with going for it.
Uh, I know they're at their own 33-yard line.
It's a quarter of an inch.
But what I had an issue with is they never looked comfortable going to that line of Scrimmage.
Harold Fannon was going under center.
An attempt.
An attempted quarterback sneak, which I'm fine withthat call, too.
But Fanon didnt get under Sander until about 3 seconds left on the play clock.
There seemed to be a lot of confusion.
I was sitting on my couch begging Stefnsky to Call a timeout, cause it could not, not just a Niner fan, You know, hoping they don't want to, they don't get a yard.
Because 1 yard is 1 yard, no matter where you are at, but it, It was just so, so messy.
And Fannon doesn't get the snap.
49ers recover the ball.
I believe Gifford got the recovery.
So, so box score stat boost right there, I guess, right?
Fumble recovery for Gifford.
Uh, but then it was fourth down anyway, so the Niners would have gotten the ball there anyway.
But then the 49ers' 9-play touchdown drive which, uh, Resulted in, I thought one of Kyle Shanahan's better play calls of the season.
A very simple read option at the 2-yard line, but everybody on Cleveland played on a great Read by Purdy, which, uh, I'll let you break down the touchdown celebration if you want.
Kittle seemed to be surprised by it.
Uh, but yeah, that was really the sequence of plays that won the game.
Was that the start of the set or the end?
The first half going into the fumble.
Going into the touchdown by the 49ers, that's where the game was.
Was taken over.
Uh, J.R. Romero, thank you for the donation.
Special teams and defense earned us this win.
You know, You gotta play well on all three phases, and when you, When you give this 49ers offense those opportunities right there, They've got to cash those in.
That's what good football teams do.
Um, you know, we're down a bunch of players, But playing together and giving the other, the other guys an opportunity to, To cash in, that's the way you're gonna have to play, and the Browns are inept.
Like, let's not, you know, get it twisted at all.
Like they are absolutely inept, and they, they completely, you know, Came apart at the seams, but at the same time, That's just how it's going to happen.
You know that touchdown run by Purdy was great, First of all, it was great, you know, it was, it was.
An excellent call, right?
And he read it perfectly as the defense sold.
Out to go get McCaffrey.
That's what they figured it would be.
And why wouldn't they?
You know, he pulls that thing down and runs it in for the zone read.
Looks like his toes are actually much better.
There were a few plays in this game, Whether they were throwaways or not, him escaping the pocket and him moving.
He looks a lot better.
He looks a lot better.
So that makes you feel better, although I don't know if you guys heard on the, On the, um.
On the broadcast, they were saying that they Spoke to Purdy, and he said it won't be 100%.
You know, I'm not 100%, but that is as close as it looked.
And then, obviously, the icing on the cake, which I don't know, Man, CBS was fumbling the bag with replays all game.
Um, how do you not find a way to get us a good angle of Brock Purdy hitting that Dougie?
'Cause that stuff was super clean, man.
Oh my God, He's been waiting to get that one off.
Yeah, no, a great, a great, great sequence for the Niners.
And it really emphasized how well, like I, as I mentioned, I thought Purdy was moving well.
And that, that's really the big concern for him at this point is its not necessarily anything Beyond that, a lot of people talked about how his, His upside over Mac Jones was his mobility.
We hadnt seen it the past couple of weeks, but we see it this week.
And, and, and he looked, he looked good.
He, he looked fine.
He looked good.
I was encouraged by what Brock Purdy had To offer in this game.
Uh, George Kittle had a pretty decent game as well.
You know, he doesn't have a touchdown.
Jauan Jennings has the lone receiving touchdown.
But two plays that Kittle made were pretty big.
Uh, first of all, leading into the field goal, I don't know how he caught that ball.
Uh, the 33-yard reception, I think that's the longest play of the game for the 49ers' offense.
Defense!
I, I don't know how he caught that ball.
He somehow brings it in over Ronnie Hillman.
I thought maybe theyd rule it incomplete because Hillman did rip it out at the end.
But Kittle was already established as down.
Uh, the next play, the Niners kick a field goal to go up 10 to 8.
And then, and then a play that'll probably get lost cause; its not the flashiest of plays, But right after that fumble.
Uh, the 49ers are facing third and eight.
Kittle just finds his way between the two.
Linebackers, Uh, Clevelandthey come crashing in, Obviously, but Kittle's wide open, gets the first down, a 14-yard gain a couple plays later, The 49ers score a touchdown.
I thought Kittle played well today in a game where the offense didn't do much.
But did enough to work.
Uh, and then J.R. Romero, thank you for the donation.
We willwe'll talk about it.
We'll talk about it here in a minute.
The Rams did lose.
Uh, they lost to the Carolina Panthers, which, uh, after we watched them on Monday night, I don't think we would have predicted that at all.
They didn't look very good, but they can bounce back with a huge win for the Niners.
Helping the Niners, losing to them on Monday night, then beating the Rams afterward Sunday, that's really nice of them.
Uh, then Purdy did well.
He didn't elevate anybody.
Uh, I think I might be reading that wrong.
I don't, I don't know; maybe I'm misreading that, JR, I thought Purdy played well.
Yeah, I thought Purdy played very well, actually in this one.
Considering the circumstances, you know, we, we actually get now to push back on a few Narratives, right?
Um, can't win in Cleveland.
Can't win in weather, can't beat Jim Schwartz.
All of these things are now pushed back on All of these things are now pushed back on.
And it just goes back to what the Browns are.
The Browns are the Browns, at the end of day, and it just, You know, the 41.
You know, a one-year droughtthat's a bit misleading, because they've only played Four times, you know, over the 41 years, but, uh, yeah, uh, Its good to know that now, you know.
The whole Jim Schwartz thing owns him, you know, whatever it is.
Like, you know, again.
If the stupid damn kicker makes the kick last time, and you know you win this game, Then we're not talking about being scared of Jim Schwartz anymore.
Right?
Like, so, um, I think, you know.
Narratives have context, and we must place it all together.
But yeah, the 49ers, you know, they went in.
This was a game that we knew would be ugly early on.
It was, I mean, when you go into the half ten eight of, You know, it looked like it was just gonna be one of those rock-fight games, But you know, the Forty-Niners, when you can create those turnovers, When you can capitalize on those mistakes, uh, that is, This is how you get it done.
And the Forty-Niners are going to win These games go like this the rest of the way.
You know, they have the bye week, you know.
Tennessee, then Chicago.
Indianapolis and Seattle to end the season, man.
It's not going to get easy.
So it's good to see everyone pitching In every little bit, every single phase of football is going to have to be.
At its best, if the Forty-Niners are going to find a way to make the playoffs, Which I believe, you know, after this win, really puts them in the driver's seat.
I think it puts them at an 8788% playoff probability.
So, yeah, I think it was, I think it was, it's one of the more impressive wins against an Unimpressive team.
But as you know, in the NFL, style makes fights and Cleveland, uh, does things that they You know that theywe thought they were gonna have problems with, You know, again, Miles Garrett, one sack, Cleveland Farrell, two.
Who would have known?
Well, now it's not even just playoffs, But now the division is in play.
It's, it's, it's, it's interesting with this, with this Rams loss.
Uh, the Seahawks play the Minnesota Vikings, Jason.
Uh, with the backup court.
I, I, I had to throw it away, I had to.
At least you dont have to watch Nine this week.
So I guess that's a, that's a positive, right?
Yeah, but I have to watch Max Brser.
That game just came across my screen, and I'm just like.
Theres not enough.
Theres not enough alcohol worldwide.
Well, I mean, the Saints actually did come back.
Towards the end, against Miami.
Miami really stinks.
Um, uh, and now, you know, that, that game just started.
So, you know, Im rooting for Minnesota, but thats going to be an uphill battle against Seattle.
But now, at worst, the 49ers will be 3rd.
Place, obviously, right?
They're still in third place.
They still have Seattle, but with Seattle, if Seattle loses, Which I don't know if they will; we'll, we'll see what happens.
We would have said earlier that I don't know if the Rams lose to Carolina.
But here we are.
The Niners will, the Niners will enter Bye week one game out in the loss column.
They obviously have their bye week.
And then they have Tennessee next week, and then maybe, Maybe a team loses next week, and the Niners will be playing for first place in the NFC West.
Uh, but right now, I think you could safely say the Niners are a team that is, That are starting to look right at a good part of the season.
Kind of had a lull in the middle of the year there.
They're really, it feels like they are adapting to these injuries they have On the defensive side of the ball.
I mean, Cleveland Farrell, two sacks, right?
Like we've been talking about it, How poor the 49ers' offense or defense line has been these past couple of games.
Now, all of a sudden, Clelin Ferrell has three sacks in two games.
Keyon White has been impressive.
I'm happy to see he finally gets sacks.
Bryce Huff, you know, hes up and down.
He's inconsistent at times.
The linebackers are up and down, but the defense is steady.
Is playing as a unit.
And I know Cleveland's offense helps a A little bit, right?
Like, like, like, we, we gotta, Gotta say it, right?
We can't sit here and blame the Niners' defense Dominated a top-tier offense today It's an offense that's really struggled I looked it up, actually, Jason: Cleveland has 3 games with 200 yards passing or more, And that doesn't feel like 200, not 300, 200 yards.
Uh, that doesn't feel good, and the Niners took advantage of that today.
I think.
I mean, how many yards did Shador have?
Here?
Let me pull this up.
Shador had 149 passing yards.
Uh, so, so it's really not a good offense.
Quinshaw Judkin looked really good on it, On the Cleveland offense.
I like Harold Fannon.
I think Trent Green had a stat that Christian McCaffrey leads the NFL in broken tackles.
Harold Fannon II.
And that, that's crazy, because he's a he's a rookie, and he's a tight end, And not often are you talking about a tight end breaking a tackle.
So, I, I, I, Cleveland's offense is not great, but the Niners' defense made them look that way.
And I think Shadour was fine today.
Um, but, like, What you saw today is a microcosm or, you know, really just gives you an insight like Who he is.
He needs to get rid of the football more.
He needs to stop falling back on, like, I Don't know why he thinks that, You know, running backwards toward the 50 and taking a sack is, It is a good play.
You know, he did turn down some throws.
It is his 2nd start, but thats been the book on him.
You know, since he was in Colorado.
That's the type of player he is at times.
He doesn't.
You know, he doesn't see it.
He doesn't throw it; um, he holds the ball too long or he just runs backward.
So, yeah, I mean, look, he was fine, you know.
Like I'm not gonna say he was awful, You know, but I wasn't necessarily worried about him, and, And that was, that was my contention, like if this game was gonna be lost by the Forty-Niners, It was going to be lost because they turned the football over.
Over and over, Cleveland's defense stood firm.
It just kept applying pressure time after time.
You know, they got like a pick-six or something like that, or the game got funky, Never really got funky.
It was just that one drive, you know, Like you said, you know, the idea that they should have gone for it on fourth.
I didn't have a problem with them punting.
Because if I, If I am giving Shadow Sanders and that Cleveland offense the ball at the 10, You shouldn't let them go 90 yards for a touchdown.
Like that's on you, defense.
That's on you.
Um.
And especially when they run the football.
Straight times.
So, I mean, you know, that's just who they Browns are, you know, and I think thats why it was, It's so frustrating when the 49ers lose these games because it's painful, It's, for the most part, them beating themselves.
And that's what makes it so frustrating.
It's like this drought over the last two, You know, these 41 years or whatever, the last game wasthey beat themselves.
You know, missed field goal, you know, um, you know, they had some injuries in that game.
But as long as they don't beat themselves, you know, and they put Shaddu Sanders in a spot Where he had to throw the football.
And that's where you want to live.
You want to live there?
Go ahead, beat us.
Go.
One-dimensional dropback and everything.
That's why I said after the touchdown, You know, the pass rush gets to go have fun and that's when Keyon White gets there and Everything as well, too.
By the way, the refs cheated us out of a safety.
As well, too.
I, I don't, I wouldn't; they just don't want to.
Give the Forty-Niners a safety at all, man.
I really don't understand.
I felt like they had safety in three ways like I felt like there was something holding the mask, and then Shadow, Like they said, he had intentional grounding.
It should have been intentional grounding, but I think they said he was getting hit Through, which I guess wipes it out.
But yeah, the Niners got screwed out of a safety; that was the Arizona game.
Right?
I believe, uh, back in week 3 or 4, Whatever it may be.
Uh, but yeah, this is really dominating.
Performance by the Niners.
It started slow, It was, like, the first half, a little nerve-wracking; we could be 100% honest with That, uh, going into the half, 10 to 8, not feeling good, Giving the ball back to Cleveland, but the 49ers outscore them 16 to 0 in the second half, And, really, after the fourth down, they didnt convert because they fumbled it.
It really felt like that was it.
The 49ers scored the touchdown to go up 9.
And it never felt like Cleveland was getting past 10 points.
So, that was really the sequence of the game for the 49ers, to put it simply.
Away.
Yeah, and if there's one, if there's two.
Concerns in this game with the defense, one, The run defense was getting completely gashed.
And that's pretty bad, but goddamn the missed tackles.
Somebody please wrap up and tackle.
Curtis Robinson has to stop playing.
He has to stop playing, and it's not just him.
But my God, man, it seems like every single time he has a chance to get, Uh, you know, to somebody, heit's just, it, he completely whiffs.
And obviously, this bye week is at the right time.
Hopefully, Tatum Battu comes back soon.
Hopefully, you know our kicker comes back as well, too.
You know, we're going to find out what's going on with, uh, You know, who else left this game, um, with an injury?
Um, Robinson went down.
Somebodyoh, Martin.
Yeah, well, yeah, well, all right.
Nick Martin, you know, whatever, like, you know, you'll have time to get out of that, and Everything, but you know, I just and Juice has ribs.
He'll be fine like that, but it's just the tackling thing.
Man.
Like these next four games, and yes, one is Against the Tennessee Titans, who put up 3 points today against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
And, uh, funny enough, they're gonna face the Browns this week, and Shaddo is gonna start Again.
Um.
You know, youre not gonna be able to get away with that effort against the Chicago Bears.
Against the Indianapolis Colts.
Try wrapping up and tackling Jonathan.
Taylor likes that, and we'll, and we'll see how that game goes.
Like they have to fix this missed tackling thing.
I can't wait for this number to come out.
On PFF because no matter what, the PFF Number is too low.
They're going to say that it was 7.
I'm going to say it's thirty-five.
Like I said, I really don't understand.
Like, like, I'm gonna be like 'No way.'
That it was just seven.
There were seven in one play, like, So they have to fix this because of who they're going to be facing down the stretch.
I mean, even considering beyond the Indianapolis game, You got Chicago, and you saw what Chicago run offense did to Philadelphia on Friday, That was really impressive, and I think they had 200-yard rushers in that game.
So, like it or not, obviously, I'm gonna say it's not going to get easier.
But Tennessee is right in the middle there.
So, obviously, its going to get slightly easier, but then, after Tennessee, Which is, which is something we've talked about for a while, For the last month, talking about the, the, the Arizona, Carolina, Cleveland, Tennessee stretch leading right into that tough Indianapolis race, Chicago, Seattle stretch.
And even Seattle has some issues in the run game.
But, you know, there are a couple of names you're familiar with.
With Kenneth Walker and Zach Charbonnet, who have not had the best seasons, But really, the Niners inability to tackle.
Just doesn't feel good, and, and, and especially Jonathan Taylor on Monday night, Like that feels like it could be big, big performance.
At this moment, the Niners have three weeks before we have to think about that, But right now, you can't feel good about, about, Uh, Indianapolis and Chicago back to back after The performance you just saw them put forth against the Cleveland Browns and Quinshaw Judkins.
Who's had awho's had a solid season himself, but you would hope.
Things happen.
You think things better, and somebody says Kendricks will help; I signed Kendricks.
Obviously, uh, Which we'll see what that is; we'll see what that looks like.
Uh, I can imagine it can only help, cause it means fewer Luke Gifford snaps.
But, uh, you know, well, Kendrick, Kendricks will probably play Mike.
Um, so it's going to be between him and Baton.
I don't.
Yeah, so I'm not sure what they're going to do, if they're going right back to Baton If they're going to, you know, just turn it over to Kendrick's.
I would say that, you know, Kendrick does have the bye week to get, You know, um, acclimated, but, uh, you know What, knowing Kyle.
He will probably roll with the veteran and remember, you know, The reason that we have DeAndre is because of, Um, you know, Eric Kendrick.
So, I think if they get him up to speed.
And buy, he's probably the starting mic.
Yeah, so, so we'll see what that looks like.
Obviously, that's something to discuss over the bye week.
Uh, we're still here talking about the 49ers 26-8 victory over the Cleveland Browns.
Uh, what did you think about McCaffrey's game, Jason?
I, I. I think that's just a product of the Weather, or do you think just Cleveland did well?
What do you think of the running lanes?
And, obviously, that's a... That's an All-22 question, maybe, but what, what do you think about McCaffrey's game?
No, Cleveland has a very good run defense, and you know, That was just a grind-it-out game with McCaffrey.
That's why Brock had to make those throws.
You know, Brock has to make those throws, too, you know.
Keep the offense going.
You know, this was never going to be a game where, You know, you run, run, run the football like it; it was just never going to happen against His defense.
So, I don't reallyI'm not reading much Into it.
I think, you know, once you're able to at least Connect on some passes down, you know, it pushes the defense back a little bit or at At least puts it in their mind that football can come out.
Um, so I'm not really, really that much into it at all.
I just think that Cleveland has a very good run defense, and I think that, You know, they, theyyou know, they're, they're the #2 rated defense for a reason, So I'm straight.
The other injury we might have had Thinking about who Kyle Uzak was.
He walked off the field at the end of the Game.
Uh, we'll see what that looks like.
He had 2 receptions for 27 yards.
Uh, Juan Jennings had a quite good game, with 4 receptions and 39 yards.
And the touchdownthe only passing score of the game for the Niners.
Uh, Ricky Pierce had 2 receptions for 14 yards.
Uh, down, wait a minute, so 0614.
We're improving every week, 06/14.
Next week, on the 28th, at this rate, you know we'll be in the divisional round and He'll have a 115-yard game.
We like it; we like the positivity.
There, Jason.
Uh, but yeah, I, I really just, I, I, I don't have much more to say.
I feel like we've covered a lot about it.
Cleveland Ferrell really had a complete game, 9 tackles, 6 solo.
2 sacks, 2 tackles for loss, 2 QB hits, uh, really a complete game from him.
Oh, they had a fourth down earlier in the game, too.
Where Malik, Mustafa, and Jordan Elliott were there and made the big hit, Uh, just an overall solid performance by the defense.
Man, Malik Mustafa was the best player on the field.
Today on defense.
Um, he's been improving steadily.
I think, you know, Jayre Brown stole the show last week.
But Malik was just as good in certain aspects.
Uh, you know, that one throw from Shadri that floated up there, You know, Malik had a chance to get under there, but he, You know, he's been flying to the football.
He looks like he's comfortable.
Perhaps he's healthy, but that is for all the talk we're having about the safeties And how worried you are about that.
You know, you are about that.
You know, Brown and Mustafa, you know, turning the corner is.
Uh, it's very big, you know, in this game, and, and, you know, And for the season, So, you know, I kind of expected there was Gonna be an interception from Shadow, you know, like I thought, that one where, Uh, I think it was Robert Beal, if I'm not mistaken, you know.
Got his hand, uh, on, um, Shador's arm, and the ball went up, And I was like, Oh, there it is, it's an interception, and it just, like, fell into the Browns' hands, um, but then.
You know, the throw that Malik, uh, you know, had a chance, Like everybody got their hands on that one.
He's been playing very well, like, you know, spoiler alert, He's one of my three stars.
OK, I like that.
I like that Malik was having 77 yards, almost had 7 receptions, 7 tackles, a tackle for loss, and a pass deflection.
He was, He felt like he was all over the place, Jason, Um.
That's really all I have from this game, uh, you know.
It's, it's a ho-hum 268 victory.
We, we talked about a lot here already.
Do you have anything you want to touch on?
I feel like we touched on a lot.
Yeah, Ben Barch is hurt, um, and that's, you know, such is life.
Water is wet.
Um, uh, so Spencer Burford, You know, I don't know if you guys saw before the touchdown.
Uh, to Ja'Juan Jennings, he literally, you know, I feel bad for No.
33.
He went out there in 74, put him on his ass, but its gonna be Spencer Burford the rest of The way, most likely, um, just.
I don't know what it is.
Ben Barch cannot stay healthy; he just Cannot hold on to that job.
So, you know, the rotation, at least, we're just going to get it down to one guy.
Um, but, you know, Ben Barch is always hurt, man.
I just don't know what to say.
Like I said, it's not my opinion.
Like he's always hurt, whenever he gets on the field.
He ends up being hurt.
So, Spencer Burford will go the rest of the Way.
I thought Jake Brindle played a little bit Better.
There was one play where Mason Graham wiped him.
Completely off, uh, off the line.
Um, so Im sure thatll get a lot of buzz on social media, as opposed to, You know, showing some of the good things he did.
Trent Williams, if I'm not mistaken, allowed 8 pressures; 9 pressures if.
If I'm not mistaken, in this game, although it was only one sack for Miles Garrett, But I do want to highlight that Miles Garrett did move over a little bit, even though I Highlighted, I highlighted all that, you know, Most of his snaps would be against Trent.
Williams.
He did move over against Colton McKevitz.
Cole McKivitz did very well, so I want to make sure that, That we highlight that as well, too.
For every time that you want to, You know, bash Colton McKevitt and whatever, Miles Garrett went over there and he, He held his own, man, and its in limited reps, but, You know, for all the talk about, hey, just line up Garrett against McKevitz, I would; it's not that simple, you know.
Especially with the defensive scheme and how They, they function.
You can't just willy-nilly change all that.
So, yeah, I think the offensive line was fine in this one.
I think Brock got the ball out, but you know, his mobility helps a lot more.
But you know, against this defensive front that, you know, For the most part, he gets after the quarterback.
I, I, You know, Brock got sacked once.
Um, he was hurried a lot, but still got the football out.
Yeah, all right, let's move on to three stars here, then.
Jason.
Uh, I feel like theres a good amount.
Of 49ers, you can go with.
Uh, Im gonna start with the offensive line as a whole.
You mentioned, you mentioned a good amount of pressures.
I'm curious to see what that PFF number was, because it felt like it, Especially after the 3rd quarter, or after the 2nd, After halftime, there we go, we got there.
After halftime, The pressure really ticked up a bit from Cleveland.
But only 1 sack, uh, from Miles Garrett, 1 sack from the team that leads the AFC in Sacks this season.
Uh, really, I didn't expect the Niners to throw the ball 30 times Of the weather, but they did, and to keep Brock pretty upright.
And these are the types of games where I, I, I get why Niner fans are so harsh on them Offensive line, but sitting here, saying that they're, they're a bad offensive line, Thats just an outright lie.
Theyre average.
They're anywhere from above average to below average any given week.
I think today they were an above-average offensive line.
But to sit there and say they're bad offensive line, This is a, this would be Game A, Game One.
I show you of, No, this is why they're here.
Not a bad offensive line, just bad Offensive line, I don't know, like picking a random team out of a hat here, The Las Vegas Raiders would have given up 10 sacks, uh.
Which is exactly what they did last week.
Uh, but the Niners allow one, and that's the difference between a bad offense line and Average offensive lines are, well, average Offensive lines can hold up when needed, When needed, and that's what the offensive line did.
Yeah, and I don't want this to come off like you know.
Like, you know, being a dickhead or anything, like that.
But if you think the Forty-Niners offense line is bad, I just implore you, let's watch some other games from different teams.
And you tell me what you see.
Um, watch any Chargers game.
Yeah, I was just about to say, for all this talk about Jim Harbaugh and, You know, offensive guard and we, the offense injuries exist.
They do.
That's fine.
Slater's hurt or whatever, but even so, you know, like you, You literally get all but your interior O-line, even when theyre all healthy as hell.
So I don't want to hear that anymore, right?
Like we have to start watching around here.
League.
Like watching other teams, watch how they Offensive lines function.
Watch how CJ Stroud runs for his life every single play.
There are far worse offensive lines out there than the San Francisco Forty Niners.
And if that's the type of perspective that you need, so you can kind of get up off them, Whoever it is, that is just like, oh, you know, this is the worst offense.
Line, I don't know who I'm speaking to now In this instance, then fine, But because I think once you see what it's like across the league, Many teams have problems with their offense lines, and many teams have far worse offense lines than the San Francisco Forty-Niners.
And, you know, Some of that is a function of the scheme, the quarterback, all of those things.
I think, again, offensive line play ties to quarterback and receiver, Scheme, you know, what's your, what's your timing, all of those things.
Matter, right?
Sometimes, um, the pressure's on the quarterback, Sometimes pressure is on the offensive line, but I guarantee I can go around them.
League, and point out a bunch of offensive lines that I can say for sure are far worse than The San Francisco 49ers.
And you know, if it takes you watching them Get their ass whipped every single time, you know, snap to have a newfound appreciation for the If you love the 49ers, then I implore you to do that because you might feel better Offensive line watch around the league.
Perfect.
Uh, whos your third star?
Um, Malik Mustafa, I, you know, again, you know, it's, it's coming in, It's coming into its own again, you know, maybe It's the injury.
Maybe it's the way they're deploying him, you know, they, They found a way to get him playing fast again, get him playing.
Um, good football, uh.
That's a big thing because we, We literally were talking about going into the draft.
Like, what the hell are they gonna do with Safety, you know, Segu got benched, you know, Mustafa looks bad, and what about Tig, and you You know, last week it was Tig, this week was Malik Mustafa.
I don't think Malik Mustafa is going to, um, Is going to be.
You know, Defensive Player of the Week, but he definitely had a very good game.
It always felt like he was in there, and you know, in that fourth down, That 4th down play, you know, everyone went to Jordan Elliott because he's the big boy, and you Automatically assume that, but, you know, he was completely unblocked.
Malc Mustafa gets in there; he's the first one to get contact.
So, you know, he's playing fast; he's playing physical, looks a lot like the guy from last Year, so that's really, really big.
Uh, I'm gonna go to 2nd Star.
I'm really iffy, unaware.
I'm gonna go Sky Moore.
I just like talking 49ers special teams after all the times we've been mean to them, Uh, for good reason, it's not like we were mean for no reason.
Especially, the team is very bad, but really, it's been every game the last six weeks, There's been some big returns, starting with the Houston game with Bryan Robinson.
Uh, but Sky Moore, a 66-yard punt return this time, Kind of ran out of gas at the end there.
It was kind of a cool stiff-arm.
Like I said, I guess it was against the punter, like, whatever.
But, like, stiff arms are always cool.
Uh, but it sets up the Niners first score of the game.
Uh, after a pretty mundane first drive, which, by the way, We haven't talked about that first drive, but throwing the ball every play on that opening Drive with no runs was very interesting, but Skyy Moore makes up with his 66-yard return.
I feel like I could have gone with George Kittle here, too.
But I'm gonna go Sky Moore, my second star.
Yeah, I'm gonna go George Kittle here, man.
Um, you know, Again, intermediate is where you must attack this defense.
I love the route combination that he ran.
Against that, that look, you know, as soon as he breaks inside.
The two linebackers think that he's just going to be running across there, You know, he runs it back out the other side.
Brock sees it: layers of football.
All in there.
That's exactly where you had to attack.
That catch at the end of the half.
Again, that drive is the, Is the tight, the turning point in this game when the 49ers really start to look themselves in the mirror, and we're like, wait a minute, we are better than these guys And let's go out there and let's wake up.
Um, so it was good to see all that.
So I do think, again.
There is an offensive identity with the edge the 49ers play withand also him Being an offensive weapon.
But George Kittle, man, being back, like theres no, There's no real way to quantify, you know, obviously, you have the numbers with yards per Rush and all that stuff, but there's no real way to quantify his impact on this defense.
In terms of edge and attitude, I mean this offense in terms of edge and attitude, And the way that they play, and, you know, his propensity to make big plays.
So, um, I'm going to give it to George Kittle in a game that, That absolutely was necessary for him, in the way the Forty-Niners were going to have To be successful on offense.
Propensityit's a great word.
Jason just casually drops it in there.
I love it.
It was, uh, in my day of the word, Um, calendar.
I had to use it once.
I love it.
I need to get one of those.
I need to match Jason Aponte's aura alike with his words.
Like, dare I say, like you think Jason Aponte is just full of aura.
Wait till you hear his, his, uh, vocabulary.
Propensity.
I love it.
He's usually, uh, yeah, I tried sneaking into your number one star here.
Which we might have the same.
We might have the same.
Maybe not.
I'm gonna go Cleveland Farrell.
Oh, who do you have?
You know what?
It's boring, and the numbers don't really jump out at you.
But it's Christian McCaffrey, you know, and and, and, You know what?
You go first with Cleveland Ferrell, and then I'll do McCaff.
I'll, I'll go to Cleveland Ferrell, and it's just really because of this, This defensive line has really been struggling to get to the quarterback, And, you bring him in, and, like, Ill go as far as to say today was his best Game as a er, like, like the first, the first, the first time and this time, Four sacks in three games; he's tied for 2nd on the team.
I believe so, yeah; he might be up there and he, He's been here for such a short time this season.
He's been here for a cup of coffee so far 2 sacks, 2 tackles for loss, 2 quarterback hits, 9 tackles.
Like he led the Niners in three different sacks categories tonight, Tackles, solo tackles, and sacks, I guess.
Tackles for loss as well.
He might have led the 49ers' defense in every category today.
Uh, so I'm gonna give it to Cleveland.
Farrell, just because of this defensive spot.
Line has been lately to Sam Okawa Injury like that, That's an injury we haven't yet discussed talk about.
But, uh, its just another body down here on this defensive line.
And Cleveland Farrell is just casually showing, like we thought, We thought Bryce Huff would be the savior of this defensive line, with where he was.
And it turned out to be Cleveland Ferrell, Which, you know, Niners fans remember him as being a pretty good run stopper.
And then that's kind of what he is, but 3 sacks in 2 games.
I believe 4 and 3, like it is, it is, it is been very good to see from Cleveland Ferrell, A spot where the Niners have needed it.
Yeah, you know what's funny is, uh, when Mike went down.
Everyone said, "Well, who's gonna set the edge?"
And I was like, Wait a minute, that's literally Cleveland Ferrell's bag.
Like literally setting the edge, um, and, and playing against the run.
But he has a sack against the Giants.
He has one against the Panthers, and he gets two today.
Uh, I just want to remind people: Cleveland Ferrell sacks two.
Miles Garrett has 11 of these players.
Players might be washed.
Um, so yeah, it's a good thing to see.
He may need to get more snaps.
Again, I just wish there was a way to avoid using Bryce Huff so much because of his Impact gets lost, you know, being a run defender, and he's not that impact guy.
Situational, you know, pass rushes, but I understand why he has to be out there because Of the lack of bodies, Cleveland Ferrell should get a lot more snaps.
I think so.
And especially if we, you know, come out of This buy, and we find out that Sam O is not ready, and, You know what's going on with the, with the rest of this defensive line.
So, um, but yeah, Cleveland Ferrell is a good call, man.
Already second in the team in sacks, and he's up here for a cup of coffee only.
Which is either good or bad, uh, depending on your perspective.
Well, if they have three sacks today, he has 25% of the Niners' sacks this season.
Uh, they were, they had 13 entries today.
They have 16 now.
He has four of them.
He literally has 25% of the sacks.
And he's been on this team for 25% of the season.
That's, um, that's up to you whether you think that's good or bad.
Um, but it is true.
Good for Cleveland Ferrell.
Bad for everybody else, right?
Right, right.
Depends on how you... How you look at that.
So, yeah.
Uh, and then you had Christian McCaffrey, number one.
I'm excited to hear this explanation.
Yeah, you know, look, uh, uh, its so funny because I was watching the pregame show today, If I'm not mistaken, on NFL Network and Kurt Warner, You know, Rich Eisen, they were talking and they were like, Hey, you know, what's going to be the game plan?
And they're talking about, You know, protecting the football and making sure that you, You know, you play sound defense and everything, and Rich Eisen goes, Well, you know, maybe 23, getting the ball a lot.
And Kurt Warner says, "Yeah, but everyone knows that, and I think that's where I'm going with" This is that every single person knows who's going to get the ball, just about every single Time.
And though the numbers don't look good, Cleveland has a very good defense.
He's still breaking tackles; he's still scoring touchdowns.
He's still that guy who can move the chains when you need him.
It was a gritty game.
It's not glitzy, but gritty, Not glitzy, gritty, on the film, you know, Glitzy, not in the box score at all, because How it looks, especially with yards per carry, but it's just every single person, Every single defense, no one.
Ever like, man, who's this 23rd guy?
How do we stop him?
Everybody knows who's going to get the football, and yet, When they need to play, when they must do something big, When they need a touchdown at the goal line, it's always Christian McCaffrey, I think.
This was a game where I fully expected him to get, you know, 175 touches, but while the numbers don't look good, his reliability shines this season.
The way he's carried this offense, how he's been a rock, And that's the reason, a big reason, one of the top three reasons the 49ers have nine wins Into the bye week.
So this one may not look good in the box score, But man, was it a gritty effort from him, man, especially knowing that Cleveland made him the Focal point of their defense, just like everybody else does every single week.
I like it, Jason.
That was a very good explanation.
'Cause you look at his numbers, and you know, it doesn't hold up.
I think it might be his first game this season with under 100 total yards.
But hey, I, the Gravitydare I say, Gravity, the Stephen Curry-esque gravity that, That Christian McCaffrey brings very good, very I like that number one, Sorry, I agree with a lot of what you just said.
I like it.
Yeah, and look, um.
Look, you know what's funny is, we're wondering where Jordan James is?
What about Isaac Garrendo?
You know, Isaac Garrendo is a core special teamer.
So, when you're thinking about this, this team and how they build game day Roster.
These guys have to be up, you know.
Jordan James doesnt play special teams, so hes never going to be up.
Garrendo is the third running back, but they're never gonna use him.
He's a core special teamer He almost, you know, Came up with a really nice play on that fumble.
So, like, guys are contributing on this offense.
On this team in different ways, Like it.
You know, Garrendo hasn't taken an offensive snap, so you're asking how he is contributing.
But, you know, being good's part of the reason that his special teams has been so good.
Kick returning, kick-off coverage, you know, punt, um, Punt coverage has improved because of him, and everybody's contributing.
Nick Martin is not getting on the field.
Cool, I'm going to cause a fumble on special Teams.
Now, you know, you get knocked out, you know.
With a concussion, but everyone seems to be bought in, and it's still finding a way to Contribute, and that's how you bide your time and wait for your opportunity.
So, I just think I see too much of why did you draft Jordan James if you're not Gonna play him?
We've been dying for Bryan Robinson to play more Snaps.
He's not going to get more snaps than Christian.
McCaffrey.
Whos Jordan James going to jump over?
And then when you think about the guys you have to have active on game day, Hes not part of that rotation because he cant play special teams.
So, unfortunately, unless something drastic occurs or something horrible happens, Catastrophic.
He's not going to see the field, and it's not a Wasted draft pick, because we dont know that yet.
Uh, Jason, let's see if I got this right.
Uh, if you look at Christian McCaffrey's number, I don't think people would have the drive to make him their number-one star, But Jason Aponte is there looking in between the stat lines.
Did I do it?
Did I do it right?
Did I do it right?
That's good.
It's good.
It, it, it works.
It works.
Thank you.
Thank you.
I definitely dont have a proper definition.
Up on my side of the screen here, but we, we, we don't need to talk about it.
Uh, how is Minnesota doing?
Oh, hey, we've been doing a weekly segment Now.
Uh, its called Talk About Minnesota Vikings, Jason Aponte.
Uh, how's the Minnesota Vikings offensive line?
Look?
Oh, well, Ryan Kelly's back, so that's great.
Good, and hes very good at center.
Um, you know, Will Freeze is kind of, um, you know, he's been in there, But today, Donovan Jackson had to play because their left guard is out.
He's, uh, he's, you know, they're, they're moving around a lot of parts.
I think, generally, they're fine.
Um, I think theres, you know, protection there.
The quarterback play has been awful, but you know, There are running lanes.
If you notice, when Jordan Mason touches The football, the very few times that he does, he does have some running room.
Same thing with Aaron Jones as well.
That offense is just stuck in neutral, man.
So, yeah, I think they're fine.
They are fine.
They're fine.
They're much better than the Saints' offense Line, I will tell you that.
We haven't even gotten to the portion of talking about the New Orleans Saints yet Podcast yet?
Uh, Jason, we have finally made it: the 49ers' bye week, Week 14.
The Niners sit at 94.
They're sitting in a really good spot.
Uh, the NFC West still not won, still within reach, Uh, with the Rams' loss to the Panthers of Carolina today, Uh, as it is 0 to 0, ending the first quarter here for the Vikings, Seahawks, We'll keep an eye on that game.
Defensive Seahawks lose this game.
The 49ers are in first place, or rather second in the NFC West.
Uh, right behind those Rams, and I don't know how they, I haven't looked too deep into tiebreakers, so I don't know exactly how that would work.
Uh, but division wins are important.
I think we've only lost once.
Yeah, we've only lost one game in the division so far.
Yeah, so maybe it is that the first tiebreaker is the division wins, because That's the case, the Niners are in a very good spot.
No, they are in a good spot, you know; you just gotta keep on, You know, you just have to keep on winning games and everything as well.
And I wanted to kind of go back, uh, we were just talking about, Um, the Rams.
Um, it's so funny to me.
So, Matthew Stafford breaks the record for consecutive touchdowns without an interception.
Then proceeds to throw interception after interception after interception.
Which, you know, I dont know if it validates what happened.
You know, with Purdy, because, I mean, J.C. Horn didn't even play in this game.
And they have 10 interceptions.
He has five of them.
They had three more today, but he didn't play, um, but it's just funny, Man, and, for all the talk about the Rams defense.
What happened?
The Panthers carved them up completely.
Like that was really, really bad.
I just, I don't really like it; it's so funny.
The Panthers, I saw somebody say that like, um, You know, Bryce, uh, Bryce Young flips a coin whether he wants to be J.J. McCarthy or Tom Brady.
Um, each week, today he was way more Tom Brady than he was JJ McCarthy.
He was way more JJ McCarthy than Tom Brady against the 49ers, But, um, that's a concerning loss for the Rams.
I don't want to just, Uh, I don't want to just say, "Oh, well," you know, Any given Sunday, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.
Well, short week, short week, you're rolling.
Everybody's healthy for your team.
That was some bullshit.
In a season where no team has really established themselves as the best team NFL and the Rams are kind of the easy answer for the past few weeks.
This is one that kind of brings me back.
Oh, who is the best team?
Because I think I think it's still the Rams.
But I, like, I just watched that Panthers team looked like garbage against the 49ers.
And then the Niners' defense, because of the injuries, it's nowhere near what the Rams' Defense is, and that's, uh, I don't know if, If, if, if it's just a 1, maybe 10:00 a.m. Start, whatever excuse you want to make, but that's a concerning loss for the team, I mean, who do the Rams have?
Lets see who the Rams have next week.
Let me see if I can pull that up real quick.
Because that's, That's gonna be important.
The Niners have a shot, They have the Cardinals, man, I guess, I guess, Hey, hey, Hey, hey, look.
Division games are weird.
Hey, there we go; I love it.
Bring it backI like that.
So, you never know, man, um, I don't know what happened in that.
'Cause I couldn't keep an eye on both, or whatever, like I saw that Brissette was like Kind of slinging that shit against the the Bucks, But that game's going to be in Arizona, if I'm not mistaken, right?
Or is it in LA or Arizona?
Mm, that game can get weird.
The Rams' schedule ends at Arizona versus Detroit, then at Seattle.
At Atlanta versus the Cardinals.
So, that's how the Rams ended.
They could lose one of those games to the Cardinals.
They could lose, and lose both to the Lions and Seahawks.
You know.
We'll see what happens.
Oh, they play Detroit, too.
They play Detroit next or the week after.
So, so they got at Arizona, Then Detroit.
They're not gonna lose as long as Dan Campbell's a complete moron, though.
But hey, you know, We'll see, we'll see.
We'll see.
We'll see what happens.
But Jason, I want my coach to be more like Darren Campbell, go for it on 4th down.
Remember those takes.
Yeah, yeah, hey man, speaking of that, if we're gonna talk about Thanksgiving games real Quick, Joe Burrowwhat a game!
Hey, man, what a game, Joe Burrow!
Amen, um.
What I really liked was what he said.
You know, about, The woman asked him before the game, "Why are you playing?"
You know, your team is, like, he said, Listen, man.
I get paid to play a kids game.
I'm a football player, and I want to be out there.
I was like, Damn, I would love for my quarterback to say something like that.
But he was putting the ball in places where nobody else could get it.
That's why he's one of the most frustrating quarterbacks in the NFL; he should be in That tier with those guys, but he's never available.
So the problem is, when I say that I'll take Josh Allen, Mahomes, or Lamar over him, I mean, Lamar gets hurt too, but its because those guys play.
What's the point of having someone that good if he just keeps getting injured?
So he's one of the most frustrating cases, man.
I just hope that the Bengals don't turn him.
Into Andrew Luck because he's so damn good.
Yeah, yeah, that, that was, that was, uh, that was an interesting game to watch, and then.
Successful hate-watch on Thursday and Friday, the Chiefs lose to Cowboys, then the... Eagles lose to the Bears.
I know, uh, I haven't had that much fun watching two non-NHL games, so it was weird Cheering for the Cowboys.
I'm not gonna lie, I wasn't thrilled.
For the Cowboys, but the Chiefs are in a situation.
And hey man, if you want to start looking at maybe Team of Destiny stuff 49ers, with all these injuries, are 9 and 4 The Boogeyman might not be in the playoffs.
You never, you listen, man, you get into the dance; you never ever know, Man, You're thinking far ahead.
I like it, but no, it is true.
And you know what's funny is we should have, We should have been rooting for the Eagles, um, but for me, It's like that tweet I sent out about, um, You know, I hate Dallas, but KC losing is good too.
So, we're up regardless, one way or another, we were gonna win.
So, uh, you know, look, I think a few things are true.
Um, I think all the stuff that was said about Kyle Shanahan and, like, Oh, the scheme's outdated; people have figured you outwhere are the adjustments?
We need to start saying that about Andy Reid, well too, because there's just so much.
Much about this scheme just feels like it's a bit disjointed, A little off, and this isthey, they've been running it back with the same team each time Year after year, every single year.
They haven't replaced Tyreek Hill yet.
Yet, They still don't have a run game.
Xavier Worthy.
Might be fastuh, running in shorts, but he's not football-fast.
There's no reason he caught that pass against the Cowboys and didn't turn it Other way and should have just been in the crib.
Like, I dont understand what the point is of being super fast like that, Xavier Worthy.
Rasheed Rice would have coached that.
Yeah, and then also the Eagles game, too.
I, I, I, I can't think of a more fun team to watch shit the bed at home.
Every time there was a 3rd down incomplete pass, I would, I would turn the volume up like I was bumpin' an album or something like that, just for those Boots.
They come into the living room, and every time Jamie would be sitting next to me on the couch, like Jamie, Listen, listen, do you hear this noise?
Like, do you hear how loud they are, And she, she didnt care, but I, I was having a great, great time.
Uh, Jason, I was just closing some tabs, quick, and I happened to have this one open.
Go back to Cleveland Farrell.
In 17 games in 2023, Cleveland Ferrell had 3.5 sacks for the 49ers.
So he already has more sacks in his first stint.
In 17 games with the 49ers, how do you like that?
Cleveland Ferrell, shout out, man.
I, I love it.
Man.
I'm gonna choose to take that as positive.
One more thing about the Philadelphia Eagles.
Oh, I could talk about the Eagles all day.
Jason, if you want to talk about it.
My Jalen Hurts is a DoorDasher, cosplaying as quarterback, uh, Takes are just aging better each day.
Yeah, yeah, he has not looked great, uh, because what was the, Was it the two-point conversion, like it looked like they were blocking for it A quarterback draw, and he rolled, like, it's, it's getting confusing.
It's, it's the other stuff too; it's a slant to Devonta Smith, where he's got nothing but space And he literally throws it over his back ear.
I'm just like, Uh, did you see the All-22 of that?
Angle?
Yes, it's horrible.
We're nowhere, but look at Dallas Goddard.
He wasyeah, oh yeahhe's running up the scene.
He's running up the scene like no one within 10 yards of him.
Uh, if we get in, I like our chances.
Thank you.
Keith Burney is unbeaten so far for that.
Yeah, listen.
Man, you get in, you never know what's gonna happen.
You never know what's going to happen.
Those, those are, Those are the reasons the NFL playoffs are so fun.
Uh, is because it is a one-game, one-shot.
You know, anything can happen in 60 minutes of a football game.
And you never know, then the 49ers again have been playing these ugly, close games, And they, theyve come out on top 9 times out of 13.
So, so what?
What can you, what more can you ask for?
Yeah, and I don't, I don't want to put this out there because I don't wish this on anybody.
But we still have a few weeks for impact Injuries to happen across the league still, Right?
Like, we dont know the shape of any of it These teams going into the NFC.
We dont know the shape of the 49ers.
Going to be, right?
You know, you getI hate to say this, You get your two gross models back.
All of a sudden, this defensive line looks a little bit better.
Um.
You know, like, we don't know what's about to Happen.
We don't know the state of the teams.
Going into these playoffs, right?
Like, things can happen very quickly, Right?
Like the bottom fell off for the Philadelphia Eagles were very fast after 49ers beat them in 2023.
And they were one and done.
There's that; that might be on the way.
Other teams as well, too, right?
Like Chicago, right?
The 49ers in Chicago that one is probably the biggest.
That's the biggest one right there.
Like you have to.
And you have to.
You have to hope the Packers just beat up On them, right?
Cause they played them twice.
You have to hope the Packers get them twice.
But there, there's still so much left, right?
Like, you know, You watch the Bears; they ran the football all over the Eagles.
OK, they beat, you know, they've beaten a lot of teams.
They've beaten who's on the schedule.
Give them props.
I'm still not, like, all the way, oh my God, man, the Bears have completely turned around.
What they're turned around in is now, Ben.
Johnson has them doing things no other does.
Coach was doing, which is winning the games theyre supposed to win.
And that's a big corner to turn for them because they couldn't beat high school Teams at certain times, no matter who, or what type of talent they had.
So, we still have to be patient with what, what these teams are going to look like moving forward.
Right?
Like, uh, what if this is the first game?
Like a Rams slump?
Like what?
Like again?
Like we?
We don't know what the rest of this will be But I do know the 49ers have won three straight.
They have 9 wins going into the bye, 94 with this team.
It just seems more, um, impressive overall with all the injuries, Uh, more than anything, we probably had them pegged for nine and four, Going into this, uh, with the schedule at, at, you know, At the same time as well, too, but we didn't think it was gonna be this way.
Yeah, no, I mean, I can't, I mean.
It's a two-edged sword, Jason, because defense has been playing out of its mind.
That's a good thing, but I think for the long term, I think Bob Salah is gone again.
And then we're going to have to figure that out, but that's a conversation for later.
Another day, as we said, the Niners now, 9 and 4 heading into the bye week.
That'll be it for this instant reaction.
We appreciate each and every one of you.
We'll probably be back, what, let's see, if you want, we could do a Friday episode like we Usually do is just talk about everything else Going around in the league with the Bible.
We'll see what happens when we get there, Jason.
Uh, but that's it for instant reaction today.
Hey, I'm looking forward to it: Episode 6.
Welcome to Derry.
I'm so excited about it!
I bought it, I bought it.
The novel, and I've been, I've been starting it.
So, that's how locked I am on this, Welcome to the day.
Let me know when you get to that part of the book.
I have a feeling I don't know what that means.
But, uh, You will, OK, you will, and it's not right Now, right now I'm on the 6 phone calls part Of the book.
No, it's not in, it's not in the Movies.
It'll never be filmed.
Its talking about Its the most controversial part of the book, But let me know when you get to that.
Part of the book.
OK, OK, I'm looking forward to it.
It's been a good read so far, and then I don't know if you're looking forward to it.
But you'll get there.
Looking forward to reading the book whole.
As a whole segment, uh, but, uh, the, the Justin Herbert is in the locker room.
Trey Lance is coming in at quarterback.
Oh man.
Oh man, OK, well, we'll see what happens.
What did I just say?
What did I literally just say?
What did I just say?
Uh, another injury update call, you check, underwent X-rays for his broken ribs, And those came back negative.
So, that's a good thing.
Hell be all right.
He gets a week off.
He'll be fine.
Yeah, everybody gets a week off.
49ers, 49ers on the bye week, 94 with defense; who would have thought, But they're in a prime position for the playoffs, and we'd like to see it.
Can't lose on Sunday.
Can't lose this week.
Can't lose this week.
Oh man, Trey Lance, I'm not going to watch this.
Vikings game?
Uh, not at all now.
I'm locked in on Trey Lance against the Raiders.
Oh my God, uh, really quick, one last thing, Uh, about the Rams and their recent loss.
The Chicago Bears are your number one seed in the ARC.
Wow, wow, we all drew it upjust like, just like we all drew it up.
Man.
And the Niners have them in a couple weeks.
So we'll see what happens with Jason.
Let's get out of here, man.
Let's go watch this, Uh, Trey.
Let's go watch Trey Lance.
Let's go!
Trey Lance.
I go back in time.
Hey, listen, I will.
I'll figure out something to write about the Saints.
I didn't watch that game because I just, you know, the Niners were on.
That's more important.
But, yeah, I'm definitely down to watch.
The Trey Lance, now.
That game just got way more Interesting.
Let me see the play, let me see the play though.
This is all here; it is.
That's it.
What happened?
I don't know.
He'll be all right.
He'll be back soon.
That was, that was notits fine.
Its fine.
He's jogging back to the locker room, so yeah, he'll be all right.
Man.
There's no way that little lift can Drop or whatever is going to put him up.
Adam Schefter said it was a hand injury, and JP Acosta tweeted, Trey Lance snaps just what Raiders-Chargers game needed.
Yeah, I mean, at least it's going to be interesting.
Shoot, if you're going to be boring, if you are going to be boring, At least be, you know, or if youre gonna be bad, at least be fun.
Don't be boring.
Yeah.
All right, Jason, let's get out of here.
Uh, we will be back at some point here.
Next week, uh, talk 49ers football.
9-4 going into the bye week.
We made it to week 14.
Bye.
Uh, we love it, Jason Aponte, as always.
Let's go, 49ers: 9 and 4.
Trey Lane stopped on a, on a Trey Lane stopped on a QB sneak on 4th down.
Pam.
