Raiders LB Quay Walker Relentless Mindset

Video Transcript

Thing, uh, so just being comfortable with that , um, and it's kind of it.

I don't really say it's a difference.

I feel like, uh, scheme-wise it kind of is, but At the end of the day, football is still football, you know what I'm saying, so that's all I can say.

Quay, although, uh, you haven't been able to dress with Nick here in Las Vegas, you guys did spend some time together in Georgia.

Just how, what can you say about his presence just both on the field and in the locker room that he can still bring about It's different, um, honestly, this is no knock on anybody who I played, uh, played with beforehand.

Like I played with Evan Cooper, who's, uh, pretty, pretty like.

Tremendous guy, but me playing with COVID, this is a connection that I had with him way before , you know what I'm saying, we got to this level.

It's been a minute since I played with him, but you know what I'm saying, it's kind of natural, so I kinda know.

What he's thinking, I kinda know what he, you know what I'm saying.

It may take a while cause it's still been years, but I feel like um we just pick up well on one another.

We feed off each other real, real well, and I know some days, we are humans, so some days he may come in, he may not be feeling it a little bit, or I may not be feeling it, but um we can like feel each other's energy, we can just pick up and push one another.

I know one day we was in there working out in OTAs and uh I kinda picked it up a little bit, you know what I'm saying?

We was going at it a little bit and he fed off of that.

So that kind of reminded me back to I don't wanna keep talking about UGA, but you know what I'm saying, like that's what it is, you know, what's been the mindset for you as an outside linebacker versus being off the ball as an inside linebacker each play, so.

You're going in and out of it.

What's that mindset of what you or the checklist that you go through each play?

Uh, honestly, I just have the same mentality, man.

At the end of the day, you gotta win your one on one.

Just gotta stay physical.

Anytime you're physical and you can just be the guy that kind of that cross everything out, you know what I'm saying?

Just being relentless.

That's all my mindset.

Every play, how can I be relentless?

How can I win this rep?

Anytime I move down on the edge, the first thing that comes to mind is, all right, um, my awareness kicking in.

I'm trying to, I'm having pre-snap, um, awareness just trying to see what the formation is and see what I can recognize, and see if it's going to be run and see if it's going to be passed or whatever the case may be.

The run coming to me, make sure I set the edge and do my job, not try to go one for one, but, uh, just try to Be as physical as I can, honestly, make, you know what I'm saying, making as many plays as I can as well.

So, uh, it don't really change, I'll say for sure.

I just keep the same.

How do you feel?

Uh, Rob Leonard told us that he wants the defense to play very fast and aggressive.

Um, what kind of freedom does that give you as a player?

How does that match your style?
