Red Wings Reportedly Engaged In Discussions With Panthers' Brett Peterson For GM Vacancy
Florida Panthers assistant GM Brett Peterson has been mentioned by NHL insider Elliotte Friedman as a possibility for the Detroit Red Wings' vacant GM job.

I mean, I think, I think it's a potential big weakness 'cause I don't see any other weaknesses.
They have probably- Yeah the best top nine in the NHL, adding Bennett.
Scary.
And, you know, and then you add, you know, Radko Gudas to the blue line, so, you know, the def- you have the full Charlestown Chiefs effect, with it.
They're gonna just bully everyone.
You know, it's, you know, but, but y- Markstrom, I mean, he was nev- never really good in New Jersey.
He was supposed to solve the Devils' goal-tending issues.
He played well in the Olympics for Sweden, but then, you know, now he's going to Florida and he's replacing Sergei Bobrovsky.
I think the reason they signed Schmid is because Schmid played so well in Vegas, and he is, you know, a plan B that they might be able to fall back on if, if Markstrom is past it.
But I don't think they're winning the Stanley Cup i- if Markstrom is not at least, something close to the Markstrom we saw in Calgary a few years ago, and that's a lot to hope for.
Yeah.
Markstrom- Yeah, the only thing I would add to that, and I kind of agree with you, Mike, you know, Markstrom and Schmid don't look like a tandem that's gonna get you many Stanley Cups because, you know, we, we've seen what Markstrom is.
It's wildly inconsistent.
It's one year he's good- Yeah one year he's bad.
You know, sort of- Injuries sort of that kind of approach.
Only thing I'll say is he's not playing in New Jersey anymore, and he's not playing in Calgary anymore.
Like, the, the Florida Panthers, for all the physicality they bring, they're also a really good defensive team.
Like, you've got a guy who's probably gonna win the Selke in Barkov, and you've got Sam Reinhart, who was a Selke finalist himself.
And, you know, up and down that lineup, they do play a strong two-way game.
So it should be easy, whoever's in net, whether it's Schmid, whether it's Markstrom, whether it's whoever.
And, and I think that's really gonna be the test.
Like, if you can't play net for the Florida Panthers, boy, there's probably not a job- Yeah in the NHL that, that would really suit you.
Yeah.
And the other interesting element about Markstrom, I was just hearing this discussed on the radio the other day, was that this is a reunion for him.
You know, he was originally part of the Panthers organization.
He worked with Rob Tallon, who was their goal-tending coach.
And, you know, I think that they feel that there is the opportunity to maybe rekindle a spark of his career and bring him back with, with Tallon's guidance.
And goalies are, are interesting creatures.
We know this to be true.
And so maybe there's something with that connection, being back in Florida, working with Tallon again, that can, again, get Markstrom maybe more back to his Calgary days.
But Michael, I think you make the most important point, which is they do not need him to go out there and steal every game he plays.
He just needs to make the saves that he is supposed to make.
And if Schmid can continue to improve on his end, come in, play the games that they need him to, and just build on what his young career could potentially be very successful in, I think that's a perfect recipe for just being what they need, just being enough.
