Sabres Named The 'Favorite' To Land Rangers Star Forward

The Sabres could be making a big move.

'cause it does involve some draft picks.

Buffalo gets Chicago's first round pick, which is a fourth overall pick, as well as Chicago's second round pick, which originally belonged to the New York Islanders, which is a number 45th pick, and defenseman, big defenseman Louis Crevier for Buffalo's Bowen Byram, left shot defenseman, and, and your thoughts?

I was blown away by this.

Like, the number four pick overall.

Yeah.

And, like, I like Bowen Byram.

I think that's the that's the most difficult thing about this, is that I do like Bowen Byram a lot, so, like, I don't wanna dump on him by saying that this was a bad trade.

But, like, fourth overall.

You know?

Like, in this draft, there's a lot of good players at the top, and there's a lot of sort of variation.

We've talked about this before in terms of, like, those big five defensemen and, and, and, you know, like, who, who knows, right?

In terms of your, like, maybe Ivar Stenberg slides to number four and you get Ivar Stenberg, who is an incredible young player.

but even if he goes number two, as we're kind of anticipating, like, you could have Carson Carlos, you could have Keaton Verhoff.

Like, maybe Chase Reid is there.

You know, Albert Smith's prob- is probably gonna be there.

My sort of thing here is does Chicago believe that Bowen Byram is a number one defenseman?

Because if they do, then yeah, I guess this is the risk you take, and you're getting a player that already has been in the NHL for a number of years and still has, you know, his prime to go.

But you're giving up the opportunity to have a potential top pairing defenseman, maybe even a number one, in the near future.

So it's, it's a little perplexing.

Like, I see the logic if you're Chicago, where, you know, you, you gotta get better faster, right?

Right.

You got Connor Bedard on, you know, a, a nice contract right now.

He's only gonna get more expensive in the future.

He also wants to see some progress, I'm sure, as he sees, you know, Macklin Celebrini and the Sharks get better.

You need to surround him with more talent.

But the, it was a high price.

And I guess the other thing I'll say about, you know, Chicago, Jordan Greenway does help them in their bottom six.

Obviously gets them a lot bigger.

I'll never forget at the World Juniors years ago, Bob Moscow, who was coaching Team USA at the time, called Jordan Greenway Big Papa Bear.

You know, he makes everyone else feel safe out there.

Um- Yeah but man, like, I can understand why Sabres fans were celebrating last night on Twitter.

This is a great deal for Buffalo.
