San Francisco 49ers QB Brock Purdy Gives Glowing Praise to Rookie De'Zhaun Stribling

Ross Johnston highlights what 49ers QB Brock Purdy had to say about his new rookie weapon De'Zhaun Stribling.

Video Transcript

The preseason's over and the hype for 49ers rookie wide receiver DeJean Stribling, who they picked in the second round of Ole Miss, could not be stronger.

And Brock Purdy was talking about him again on NBC Sports 49ers Talk.

And look, you can pause this video right now and read this full quote if you want to, but spoiler alert, Brock Purdy had nothing but good things to say and greatly added to the hype that 49ers fans have and should feel about DeJean Stribling.

The 49ers wide receiver room as well has seen a lot of shakeup in the preseason.

Ricky Pearsall, out for the season, suffered an injury in training camp dealing with some stuff.

Christian Kirk could going to miss time, suffered an injury in camp as well.

They brought in the veteran Deebo Samuel back to the team, who was a free agent, spent a year with the Commanders, coming back to the 49ers.

And DeJean Stribling's, you know, rise and growth and elevation was apparent in training camp right away.

But we don't always get to see that.

You know, not everyone gets to see practices.

That can be closed off to the team only or just certain media that's there.

But what we did get to see were the two preseason games that Stribling played in against the Titans and Chargers, when it was clear that he might have been one of the best players on the field, certainly the best for the 49ers, but maybe one of the best in general.

Now, don't forget, it came out, you know, about a month ago or so that Rams head coach Sean McVay, along with others, were wanting to get Stribling, likely in the late second round of the draft.

And the 49ers used their first pick in the second round to take Stribling, which some people at the time thought was early.

But it seems like everyone in the league, or not everyone in the league, but a lot of people had him viewed, valued rather, super high on their draft boards.

And you could see right away in the preseason games, I mean, going back to week one against the Tennessee Titans, Kyle Shanahan and the 49ers quarterbacks, they wanted to get him the football.

They were using Stribling in multiple different ways in the preseason, even with a more vanilla type of playbook.

Use him on inbreakers, outbreakers, go balls, comebacks, whatever it may be, put him in motion.

They can use this guy in multiple different ways, which Kyle Shanahan likes out of his wide receivers.

I think Stribling has positioned himself too to where even with Christian Kirk coming back after four games in the twenty twenty-six season, Stribling's still going to get a bulk of the snaps.

I know Mike Evans and Deebo Samuel will be the other starters at wide receiver, but I would expect DeJean Stribling when the season's over, if everyone stays healthy, to have the second highest snap count at wide receiver behind Mike Evans.

And look, Brock Purdy needs someone like him out there.

Obviously, he used to have Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk.

We all know what's happened with Brandon Aiyuk and that whole debacle.

But having multiple weapons at the wide receiver position is great.

They still got George Kittle as well, who I think will only get healthier as the season goes.

This offense has plenty of playmakers yet again.

It's some different names, different faces, a diff- a little bit different of a makeup of the team, bringing in newer guys.

But again, Stribling only adds to the talent of this unit.

Spoiler alert, I have him as my offensive rookie of the year.
