Scheffler after Round 1: 'Liked what I saw today'
Scottie Scheffler collects his thoughts following his first-round performance at The Open Championship, where he felt confident in his ball striking to set him up for success this weekend at Royal Birkdale.

Few shots I hit offline today.
Really only a couple.
You know, I didn't get up and down on seven, and then missed the fairway on 10, I'm in a pop bunker, and then on 17 was really the only other shot I hit offline and I end up in that spot.
So yeah, I mean, that's a pretty good assessment.
I feel like I could've gotten a little bit more out of it, but, yeah, I just If I continue to do what I did today with the ball striking, I'll be in a, in a good spot as the week goes on.
The ball on 17 was buried in the sand.
Was it, was it embedded?
That was two.
No, no.
What was it- I, it's, I'm sorry, I'll answer that.
It looked like somebody had potentially stepped on it, but it was underneath the wire and it was just I was hoping somebody stepped on it, but nobody, nobody would fess up.
And so, apparently nobody did.
It's just one of those things, you know, I was just shocked at how far deep the ball was in that grass, and, there looked like a lot of good spots around there, and then all of a sudden we get to my, one area where my ball is, and it's like, I don't even I considered actually taking it unplayable.
I didn't think I was gonna be able to get the ball out of the grass that it was sitting in, but was able to get out, just didn't get up and down.
You know, it's just one of those deals.
Sometimes you get over there and you get a clean line, you're able to give yourself a look, and then other times like today, you know, you pay a pretty severe price, but I guess don't hit offline.
Scottie, you had a, you've had a run of early season starts you, you, you wouldn't consider good starts.
Do you consider this a good start?
Do you like the spot you're in, even though you think it could've been a little bit more?
Yeah, I mean, anytime you can shoot under par to, to start, you know, a major championship, I think is a good, is a good spot to be in.
You know, I got off to the hot start on the round today and wasn't able to make as many birdies as I hoped to down the stretch.
You know, I hit the fairway on both the par fives and played that an over par.
And, my only other bogey day was a wedge on seven, so those are a little disappointing.
But, man, I, like I said, if I continue to, to strike the ball the way I did, these two, t- sorry, today, and just keep giving myself the looks, that, that's part of it.
You know, golf is, is played over 72 holes and, I definitely liked what I saw today.
