Simpson addresses criticism of being picked No. 13
Mike Florio and Chris Simms break down the Rams' quarterback situation and unpack Ty Simpson's comments on the criticism that Los Angeles has faced for picking him.

Pft Live, Tuesday edition.
The news emerged on Thursday, I believe, that Matthew Stafford had agreed to a one-year extension with the Los Angeles Rams.
Michael Holley and I talked about it on Friday.
Chris, my big takeaway was the Rams continue to find a way to keep Stafford on a year-to-year plan from their perspective, but they also keep finding a way to have him committed one year beyond whatever the current season is- Yeah so he's never a free agent.
They really have worked this out perfectly.
They reserve the right to make a decision on him after every season.
They keep him from having the ability to make a decision on them.
As it relates to maybe signing with another team, he can retire whenever he wants, but he can't go sign with another team.
Yeah.
No, well, I, I think, you know, one, he, of course, is playing at a really high level.
We know that.
He's, he's one of the best quarterbacks in football.
There wasn't too many quarterbacks that did to the Seattle defense last year what we saw Matthew Stafford do.
In fact, it was really one of the few quarterbacks in, in the second half of the season that you were like, "What?
Oh, wait, them?
He can move the ball on this defense?
Nobody else can do this like this."
But it's his ability to throw the ball, his ageless arm.
It's one of the great arms in the history of the sport, so he's damn good.
And it goes back to what we said when they drafted Ty Simpson.
To me, this is just gonna motivate Matthew Stafford to go, "Nah, nah, nah, I'm gonna continue to play high.
I'll tell you when I'm gonna be done.
I'll keep doing one year at a time, yeah."
But, but it's gonna, to me, just light a fire underneath him a little bit and like, "Oh, yeah, you thought you were gonna push me out the door?"
So, you know, again, I'm sure the NFC West is a little bit like, "Damn, I was hoping Stafford might leave after this year.
Now we gotta deal with him one..." Mike, Mike McDonald and Shanahan are probably like, "Damn, Stafford's gonna be around for two more years?
That stinks."
And I bet you it'll be three when it's all said and done, which also lends itself to the conversation of Ty Simpson to go, "Wait, he didn't play much college football, and now he might not play in the NFL for three years?"
And that to me is where that was a peculiar pick for me, at least in my estimation.
Well, all that McDonald and Shanahan can hope for is that Matthew Stafford bends over to pick up some dirty clothes on a Friday night before a game- and all of a sudden can't play for six weeks.

It really is amazing- Mike, Mike, Mike Flores.
to think.
It's, it's, it's amazing to think how close his MVP season was to being derailed.
'Cause if he's put on IR and misses the first few games, you're not winning MVP.
It's gonna go to somebody who played every game.
Yeah.
Unless you do something historic in the less than 17 games you're able to play because of that injury, he wouldn't have been the MVP, and the Rams wouldn't have been as close to the Super Bowl as they were.
But- That's crazy they have Ty Simpson there now.
13th overall pick, the same pick they used in 2014 to get Aaron Donald.
They used that pick, premier pick, the pick that came from the Falcons trade that allowed the Rams to have a bonus selection in the top half of the round.
Simpson recently addressed the criticism that has been heaped upon the Rams for using that 13th overall pick and whether or not the criticism bothers Ty Simpson.
I really didn't care, to be honest with you.
You know, everybody has an, you know, is a, you know, can have an opinion.
but, you know, it's my job to just take care of my business.
and so, you know, the Rams took me with the 13th overall pick, so now it's my job to be the best player I can be, the best Ty I can be, and go out there and, and, you know, prove them, you know, prove them right.
so I, I don't really, you know, I don't really listen to all that.
You know, my job is to, you know, make sure whatever the team needs me to do to win, and that's what I'm gonna do.
It's all he can say.

And, you know, he tried to say not that long ago he wasn't aware of the criticism.
He wasn't aware of the whole issue of Sean McVay being salty and, and pissy on the night of the draft.
He didn't know about that.
I mean, I think he did.
I think that's one of the reasons why he let the cat out of the bag that he had a secret meeting.
Yeah, right.
It suddenly stopped being a secret when he told the world that he had the secret meeting with Sean McVay.
But let me just say this.
I'm always fascinated by the production side of things because I've been in that world now for 15, 16 years, seeing producers set up shots and what's gonna look good.
I'd love to know how the conversation went that 'Cause I think that these interviews were done in connection with the NFL PA Rookie Premiere.
Oh, yeah.
I'd love to know how it ended up being that these guys are sitting in, like, some cubicle.
Like, they moved the desk away from the cubicle, and it's got a stick mic with a Sports Illustrated flag on it.
That, that I just would love to know.
I'm not criticizing it.
I'd just love to know the conversation that resulted in that being the shot.
Well, I, I, I, I don't know.
I would imagine that it's one of those where they're kind of going through the car wash, and they gotta make little stops.
"Hey, we'd like this guy on our pod.
We'd like this guy on our pod."
And they just kind of section off a little area to go, "Hey, you sit here so, you know, the, the other group of media people won't hear you," whatever.
And that's just kind of how it flies.
But as we know, production value- But where's the, where's the SI sign, Colin?
I Well, it doesn't- I mean, anything, something.
We see, you know, we- Just go sit over there.
We see top podcasts, you know, go, go around sometimes and go, "Wait, they're, they're just unfolded chairs, and they're sitting in the middle of the room."
Or talking about us, we were in Pittsburgh twice last year.
We put a table and put a white cloth on it, and there was no PFT anywhere.
We just went, "Here's a white cloth.
There's two guys sitting in a breakfast room.
There's a window behind them.
Great shot."
So, you know, that's just kind of the modern day- Wait way now.
But when we were there for the Packers-Steelers game, that next morning as the sun was coming up and you could see the baseball stadium behind us, that was an awesome shot.
That was beautiful.
It was, it was.
That was an awesome shot, yeah.
It was a great shot.
It was a great shot.
I was just saying the set, like, we didn't have PFT anything, and yeah, we were just at a table with a tablecloth on it.
That, that was it, and we made it work.
And, but that's just the way it is now.
And, and, but my, that's my point.
Yeah.
I'm always curious about the conversations that lead to what we ultimately see.
Right.
Because there's usually a conversation.
Maybe sometimes there isn't.
