Soto lands on IL for second time this season
Juan Soto is back on the injured list after another calf injury in what has been a disastrous season for the New York Mets.
Video Transcript
It's another trip to the injured list for Mets star outfielder Juan Soto as the team placed him on the 10-day IL on Saturday with a calf strain.
This is now the second time this season that Soto has landed on the IL with the same calf strain, and so the team will likely be cautious.
Mets interim manager Andy Green said that Soto was diagnosed with a grade two calf strain that will keep him out for at least three weeks, if not more.
That means you're looking at middle of August in the best case scenario for Soto, but we also know that the Mets are likely going to be sellers at the trade deadline.
And so if the team trades away a lot of other veterans or starters, are they really gonna rush to get Soto back on the field?
It's likely that we could see Soto back sometime in late August or early September as the team just tries to make sure this calf strain is fully behind him.
Obviously, you need to hold onto him in fantasy leagues because, even if he's at the minimum three weeks, you're still gonna get over five weeks of production from Soto at the end of the season, and so you wanna hold onto that even if you have no IL spots.
He's hitting 283 with 46 runs scored, 21 home runs, 52 RBIs, and seven steals in 359 plate appearances through 84 games this season.
With Soto sidelined, you're gonna see A.J.
Ewing in left field pretty much every day with Carson Benjen right, and Luis Robert Jr.
In center field, so the Mets line, outfield is fully locked in until Luis Robert likely gets moved at the deadline, and then we'll see where the Mets fill in from there.
