It is football time in Tennessee.
The Vols hit the field on Saturday at Neyland Stadium to open the season against Furman, and I've got three big things to watch, all on the offensive side of the ball.
Now look, we expect Tennessee to take care of business for backups to be playing in this game by the third quarter potentially, but it doesn't mean that we can't learn a little something or get glimpses at some things that are gonna be very important for Tennessee this year.
Number one, Faizon Brandon.
How much does Tennessee lean on his legs in this game and this season?
In this game probably not much at all, but it'll be interesting to see if Josh Heupel sprinkles that in at all because obviously quarterbacks wear non-contact jerseys at practice.
It's really hard to gauge a QB's dual threat ability during fall camp.
So how much does Tennessee try to get a glimpse into that ability that Brandon brings as true freshman against the likes of Furman?
Number two, the right tackle spot.
Who starts there for Tennessee?
Is it the transfer in Ori Williams?
Is going to be Jesse Perry who could also start at right guard?
That feels like the one position on the offensive line that is not completely nailed down, and we could get some read on who the coaching staff likes based on who they roll out there in this game.
And number three, it is wide receiver three.
Who ends up following Mike Matthews and Braylon Staley in terms of targets, receptions, and yardage?
There are a couple guys that could be in the mix here whether it's for Darius Jackson or Travis Smith, maybe the true freshmen, the talented five-star Intristin Keyes.
That may be a question that takes longer to answer throughout the course of the season.
There's gonna be a lot to watch in this game.
George McIntyre likely will get some run despite being named the backup to Faizon Brandon.
But it is great to be back.
