For a team that won only once in preliminaries, Germany's path to the semis isn't all that bumpy.

Video Transcript

Two good wins.

They look good, don't they?

Oh, yeah.

Canada looking good, finished first in their pool.

Now that's clinched.

That's, that's a real good start.

Yeah, it's a, it's a reminder what a short tournament it is, and I'm, I'm curious to-- what you think of the format.

Like, Canada wins the first two games by a combined total of ten to one.

They win the division already, even though it's, two games old, and it really is I mean, it's, it's only a little bit, longer than the actual four nations.

I mean, they have one more game.

They should win that one, and, and then all of a sudden, it's time for three straight sudden-death games.

So it's, as good as they've looked so far, there's still a lot of work to do.

Yeah, well, you, you said you wanted my, my opinion on the, on the format.

Here's, here's my opinion.

Yeah.

When I see-- when I think of best on best, I don't think of the best of Switzerland versus the best of Canada.

Mm-hmm.

I don't think of the best of France versus the best of the US.

I think of the best of Canada versus the best of the US, and unfortunately, because the way this, this schedule works with these three divisions, you really only saw, you saw, m- you know, maybe Czechia, Canada could be considered a best on best of, of really good teams, and you saw Sweden and Finland.

Other than that, you could conceivably not see a best on best.

You could conceivably not see a Canada, Sweden or, or a Canada, Finland or a US in either of those teams, or a US and Canada.

Because the way it's all worked out, if there's one little upset here or there, or if there's an upset in the elimination round or the quarter-final, like, unless we get all the best on the best in the final four I think the women got it right.

They put all the five best teams in one division, and they all get to advance, and they put the other five teams in another division, and only three of them get to advance.

That, that works for me 'cause then I know I'm gonna get You had a round-robin game of Canada, US on the women's side, but not on the men's side.
