Is Topps Finest a Better Set than Cosmic?!?
Trent drops a hot take on Alex that Topps Finest is a better set than Topps Cosmic Chrome for Baseball.
Video Transcript
You are gonna hate this take, but I would take Finest over Cosmic, personally.
I really would.
If- Can I, can I hang Can I remove you from this podcast right now?
I don't think you can.
I, I think Brendan only has the power to do that.
But that's my opinion because I prefer the looks of Finest cards.
I like the fact that every pack I open, there's going to be something that I top load in it.
Every single pack.
Like, watch a stream if Like, just look through the cards, even just the rares, the, the uncommons.
Yep.
There's usually a numbered card or an X Factor or there's an auto or there's an SSP.
Like- Yeah that's what I like to see every pack you open something new.
What I like, what I like about it is because it has a shorter checklist, you're gonna see more givi- while there are it's, while it is a 300-card checklist technically, you have the guys that have the common, uncommon, and rare.
So it's, it's not 100 guys in the checklist but it's also not 300 guys in the checklist.
There's great inserts.
I really do appreciate that, like, they made some of them really rare, like The Man is one in- Yes 327 hobby pack which is nice.
I love The Mans.
You can't see it up there, I have a Juan Soto Man auto.
But, like, back in 20 what was it?
2020 Finest was when they had The Man previously.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Th- those were super common inserts.
They now are going to be really, really rare.
The Aura, the Gustos, the Headliners.
I don't like the Headliners personally.
I think they're goofy.
I do.
I think they're goofy.
But see- Yeah here's, here's my take.
I would take a Headliner over a Minion SSP every day of the week.
It's- That's me.
I, I both agree and disagree.
I don't know.
I, I think that the, the- It reminds me of the Prizmanians what?
The, it reminds me of the Prizmanians.
I can see it.
And I don't like the Prizmanians, so that's also fair.
Fair.
But Finest should be a really, really good release.
I'm looking forward to it.
I'm gonna go to my hobby shop today and I, I try to go every couple of weeks just to look through his value boxes and such for inventory, but I also wanna grab, wanna grab a hobby box to rip just for some content so I'll have that.
By the time you guys are listening to this, that video will be up.
We'll see whether or not people in the comments are telling me that I get juice boxes from Topps, AKA I go to my local hobby shop and have Jason's mom, who works the cash register, pick my box for me.
Like- Dude, it's rigged.
What are you talking about, it's rigged?
Rigged.
Influencer boxes.
But Finest should be a really, really good release.
It's a, as we were talking about, it's a fantastic class and I think that means that there's gonna be a lot of really nice stuff, a lot of really solid hits.
I, I'm, I'm excited.
The mega boxes, by the way, as well, it looks like you can pull all of the big hits out of for the most part.
There are some things that aren't there, like, you know, your Finest Moments autographs are not in the mega boxes.
But what is nice is that the mega boxes do have You have a chance to pull The Man.
You have a chance to pull the Aura.
Granted, it's not gonna happen.
An Aura is 1 in 1,400 1 in 143 1,143 hobby packs.
It's 1 in 27,000 mega packs.
Yeah, but you know what's gonna happen.
Somebody's gonna comment on this and be like, "LOL Alex, I pulled this out of my mega box," and it's gonna be, like, an Aura Super Fractor.
But- And it'll be like, "Boom, eat your words."
So but, but what I like about what, what I was worried because when I bought those mega boxes, that was before Topps came out with pack odds.
I was buying them for the card shop and not knowing what was in them.
I could see a world in which it was like Topps Chrome- Mm-hmm where Topps Chrome Football where they definitely watered it down hits-wise in terms of you can't pull, you know, the Kaijus, you can't pull, some of the other big inserts.
I'm drawing a blank on which ones were and were not.
And they won't- Yeah, I know the Kaiju- arrive until retail.
Kaiju was the big one, yeah.
But, like, you have, it looks like all of the big inserts in I mean, you can pull a The Man Super Fractor.
It's 1 in 981,960 packs.
But to quote Dumb and Dumber, "So you're telling me-" "So you're telling me there's a chance."
" there's a chance."
And that is though for, for me putting boxes aside to put into a card shop, that's all that I need.
For guys to n- for People are going to say, "So, so there's a chance that I can pull the big cards."
I'm gonna take the risk because it's not as expensive as going and trying to buy a hobby box of Finest two years from now.
You can get a mega box or a pack from a mega for 10, 15 bucks.
Not a mega box you can't get for 10, 15 bucks, a pack.
That is gonna be, you know, there, there Are you gonna pull something?
No, you're not.
But you're telling me there's a chance.
Yeah, I'm still gonna rip some.
Like, if I can get my hands on some, I'm absolutely gonna rip some- Yep because it's like I love Finest.
Do I think that it is a $500 hobby box?
No.
Does the market say it's a $500 hobby box?
Yes.
Yes.
So it's one of those things where, okay, so you're telling me I can get into this product for a fraction of the cost and I still have a chance to hit those cool cards?
Yep.
Yeah, absolutely.
Like, save a little bit on the wallet, hopefully pull something cool.
I'm for sure gonna be hitting mega boxes when I find them because, like, they're- Yeah it's a cool idea.
But, you know, kind of similar how you said, like, you bought them before the odds released, my initial gut reaction is like this is either going to be super juiced or super watered down.
Yep.
Because when it's the first time that they're releasing a retail SKU or a value SKU I should say of a major hobby product, you know, this hasn't, we haven't seen this before.
Each year usually Bowman Blasters, Bowman Baseball Blasters, the first initial plethora of them are pretty juiced.
Yep.
And that's been a thing over years and years and years, so it's like, okay, like, we have this ingrained into our brain.
This is a brand-new SKU, so we'll see what it is.
It, it can either be really great or not so great.
Yeah.
So I'm, I'm, I'm curious to see how the first, you know, batch of them is.
Yeah.
I am too.
I'm gonna watch some people rip it and I, I might buy I might buy more, you know, if I, if they're really good and seem to be fun.
You know, the Mini Diamond I know is a popular, like, kinda parallel.
Looks like there's, you know, numbered versions of the Mini Diamonds, et cetera.
I do love to the point of it's not a $500 box.
I agree with you, but you know what is really nice, and this is one of the reasons why I like Finest, the singles are generally really affordable- Yeah because you have the common, uncommon, and rare of the purple, the blue, the orange, the magenta, the gold, the mid, the, the blue X Factor, the purple X Factor.
There, there's so many, there's so much color that comes out of Finest boxes that I think that it makes it really nice to then, for me inventory sourcing-wise, it makes it easy to get numbered cards of big name players, big name rookies into my streams which is really, really nice.
