Some Dolphins fans spent the spring asking for an open competition at quarterback, but training camp through two weeks has told a very different story.
I'm Kyle Kratz from A to Z Sports, and when Malik Willis came to Miami with just a handful of starts and 155 career pass attempts to his name, some Dolphins fans that had just got done watching Quinn Ewers start the final three games of 2025 were asking for an open competition to earn the right to be the starting quarterback for the Dolphins after Miami gave Malik Willis more than $20 million a season.
Training camp is telling a very, very different story.

Dolphins play Washington for their preseason opener at the end of this week.
Notice how I said Malik Willis, though, because Quinn Ewers has really struggled through the first two weeks of camp.
There's been turnovers.
There's been poor decision-making.
There's been not getting the ball off in the 11-on-11 periods.
And part of Quinn coming to Miami and why it could have worked was the parallels between the Mike McDaniel offense and the Steve Sarkeesian offense that was run at Texas when Quinn Ewers was there.
Bobby Slowik is putting his own imprint on his version of this Dolphins offense, and it would probably be fair to assume that those adjustments have stripped down some of the things that were all about Quinn Ewers.
Remember, this coaching staff and regime signed Malik Willis with the intent that he would be the starting quarterback.
So they're trying to optimize what they do to his skill set, which is not Quinn Ewers's skill set.
In reality, there's probably been a closer gap between Ewers and Cam Miller as the QB2 and QB3 than there has been between either of those other two quarterbacks and Malik Willis.
Now, what that ultimately means for the Dolphins' offensive success this season, who knows?
That's why we're gonna play them all and see what happens.
But after the storyline in the spring about open competition at quarterback, training camp has slammed the door shut on that conversation very quick.
