Welcome everybody, this is Sports Illustrated Football Club, and as always, we Brian, we're Dan, we are talking about the ultimate finishing performance in front of the goal.
Dan, I'm gonna start with you.
If I ask you your favorite performance in terms of goal, in terms of goal scoring in World Cup history, what's the, who's the first player coming to your mind?
So, the first player that comes to my mind isn't my favorite, the first player that comes to my mind is Selenko for, for Russia.
Uh, scoring 5 goals in the game, um, and I remember watching this, but I don't remember much about it at the time, way back in 1994.
But I watched this back the other day and actually, uh, all of the goals, most of the goals were tap-ins, and really I think I could have probably scored 5 of 5 goals that day.
So I've gone for a different option, and, and that's, uh, Kylian Mbappe are not in the World Cup final of, uh, uh, 2022.
Um, largely because two of those were penalties, I know high pressure, but I actually prefer his finishing and his all-round game in the, uh, 2018 game also against Argentina.
And actually, when you look at Mbappe on that day, uh.
It, it almost looks now like he's slow compared to how fast he was there, and you know, you just need to look in the, in the eyes of the uh Argentinian defenders to see how scared they are.
Whenever he gets near the ball, they're, they're just absolutely terrified, and if they're not trying to foul him, then they can't get near him.
He's just electric and he's so confident and uh you know, and.
Everything he tries to seems to come off, you know, he obviously wins a penalty, you know, he scores two great goals, but it's just like the ultimate deadly finisher and just uh absolutely ferocious.
Brian, watching Mbappe live, if you love football is one of the most exciting things because he's so quick, he's so fast, he's so strong, he's got everything.
Now, if, if I ask you one name, how do you beat Mbappe 2018?
The only one that can beat Mbappe is Ronaldo in 2002, but first of all, let me tell you, as an Argentine, it wasn't that exciting to see Mbappe that day.
I was at the stadium.
It was, he was absolutely unstoppable.
I think that Mascherano is still trying to catch him, um, great performance that day.
If I have to pick one, I picked Ronaldo in 2002 because of the context, because the pressure.
That he had, especially after that final in 1998 that Brazil lost against France and despite all the pressure and all the things that were happening, Ronaldo really needed to prove himself coming back from injuries and he won the World Cup for Brazil.
Yeah, two plastic knees, those injuries coming back in that way.
Wow, Personally, guys, for me the greatest player I ever I ever watched.
I, I love him, I literally love him.
But Mbappe, Ronaldo, history of the World Cup.
