Tim argues that the national team has borrowed too much from European styles like Spain and England, and explains why the U.S. desperately needs to establish its own unique footballing identity to take the next step.

Soccer is not our first sport.
Football's not our first sport in America.
We've adopted so many ideas, English ideas, Spanish ideas.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
We've adopted them and tried to mold them.
And so when we look at an Argentina, I don't, we don't have to look very far.
What, what is their blueprint?
You can see it.
What is Spain's blueprint?
You can see it.
Yeah.
What we've done is we've almost g- The US blueprint was be stronger, more athletic, and more determined than other teams.
And what we've done was we've gotten away from that because we've gone, "Oh, we wanna be like everybody else and play good football."
Yeah, you wanna play good football, but you still, every team has to have an identity and a base.
That's right.
Yeah, good point.
So it's actually okay to be physical and dominant and nasty- Yeah but then, oh, by the way, we play good football, too.
Yeah, you got it.
So there's a balance, and I think when the balance is slightly off.
