Should Webb have been penalized for move on Prado?
Ricky Carmichael and Ryan Villopoto review Cooper Webb's move on Jorge Prado in Detroit, comparing it to Evan Ferry's on Pierce Brown in Birmingham, which adds to the inconsistent rulings this season.

And, basically talking about, Coop and Prado, versus, Ferry and Pierce Brown last week.

What did you think of this move, what, second lap into the 450, main event?
And tell me, I want you to tell me where you see the difference from last week and the penalty versus this week and why there's no penalty.
Y- yeah.
I mean, i- you know, I'll say it again.
The inconsistency, i- inconsistency, when I watched Evan Ferry's and Pierce Brown, very similar, to- to- to, very similar, pass.
there's Evan coming up underneath.
you know, obviously there're lit- there were some ruts in this turn versus there wasn't with- with Prado and Webb.
you know, they look- look Webb right there, not tease him up, but tease him up for the pass.
I think it was early in the race.
He knew he had to If he was gonna go with Kenny, he needed to go now.
and he made an aggressive pass.
I don't, I don't think, personally, I don't think Ferry's was warranted any, any penalties at all, Evan's.
and then s- same with this right here.
I think this is, this is part of Supercross.
Like, that wasn't s- neither of these passes were, T-bones, coming in there maliciously, trying to, you know, hurt somebody.
I think they were, they were both Webb, for example, was knew he had to go with Kenny and if he wasn't gonna get past, Jorge right away, Kenny's so good at his opening sprint laps that he would've lost touch.
So Webb knew he had to go.
I think Webb came in there thinking that, "Hey, I'm gonna run it in here and hopefully, I'm taking a chance here, but hopefully Prado's gonna see me out of, out of his peripheral and he's gonna stand it up."
that's not what happened.
Jorge stayed committed to the turn and, and Webb was there, and at that point, Webb couldn't stop and Jorge's bike laid over too much weight on top of, on top of, Coop and took down Coop, right?
So, I do s- I don't like the inconsistency in it.
I think to me they're, they're very, very, very similar passes, between, between the two.
Yeah.
we reached out and talked to a few folks and, I think from their point of view, they were They- they basically, to spare you what they said, you know, is just how they felt that the, there was more intent for the takeout move, between Evan and Pierce.
That's why the, penalty and the fine was assessed, whereas the Cooper Webb and Prado incident was more of a racing incident.
listen, I think that this is, you know, when you leave it in the, in the hands of the ref, you are, you know, y- you fall into the category of you think it Y- you fall into the category of you're at their mercy in how they view it.
I do think that, that Evan went in there to, to get the best of, of Pierce and I think that it was a little bit of a careless move from, from Coop, especially a guy that has been in it this long.
I mean, y- you know, I c- I understand the position he's in also.
I mean, it was, like you said, he, if he wanted to stay with Kenny, he had to make that.
the championship is on the line.
There's not another weekend that he can continue to lose points.
It was a desperation move and, it was poorly timed.
He knows that.
He said it on his, he said it on his, Instagram.
So I'm with you as far as consistency goes.
You know?
Like, you know, AMA, they, that's how they said it or that's how they viewed it, and you're at their mercy.
I think it's a similar takeout for both, and you kind of explained it the same way.
So, they should, you know I- if you wanna be consistent, then, there either needs to be no fine and no points for Ferry or there needs to be a fine and some points for, for- for Coop regardless.
But yeah, to In my mind it's the same kind The angle was very similar and it- it was, you know, it was the same.
Yeah, I think so.
I know.
It's, it's wild.
This, this whole thing has been crazy.
but something needs to happen.
I said it again, if anybody wants anything to change, the riders need to speak up.
They got the loudest voice.
They're the ones out there that, can, can carry the most weight in my opinion.
It's not me, it's not you, it's not anybody from the press.
it's the riders and the teams, and if they wanna make a positive change, they just gotta keep, you know, voicing their opinion and, things will hopefully get better.
