"We're On The Brink Of Not Making The Playoffs:" Oilers Hanging On By A Thread After 6-3 Loss To Carolina

The Carolina Hurricanes walked into whatever passes for a hostile environment in Edmonton these days and put six past the Edmonton Oilers with very little to answer for. The Oilers, on the other hand, have now surrendered 56 goals over their last 12 games, and it is safe to say their defence has fallen apart.

Ryan, when you consider the moves that Edmonton maybe didn't make, is there something that sticks out of Is, is there a reason?

Do you think it's they're trying too hard to protect what they currently have?

They don't have, you know, the right assets to, to make these moves?

Like, what is the reasoning?

Because, you know, everything Michael just suggested I completely agree with.

There's so many people online who are so disappointed knowing that Connor McDavid did everything that he could and feeling like management with, Edmonton isn't doing their part.

So what is Why, why aren't they going for it more with, with this window?

Yeah.

I mean, they did pick up Connor Murphy, uh- a couple of days ago from Chicago, and I think that'll definitely bolster their blue line.

But I, I do see where fans are coming from because, you know, the goaltending situation is not sorted, right?

Yeah.

Like, it has not improved since the Skinner-Jarry trade.

So you do have to look at that and say like, "Okay, well, maybe that was a missed opportunity," a- as we were talking about earlier.

Like, no goalies moved.

Was there maybe a deal out there that, that could have improved things?

I also wonder too if, you know, the mindset in Edmonton is, well, you know, last year in the cup final we didn't have Zach Hyman, and that was a big loss obviously for us.

He does so many good things.

He's, you know, such a good, complement to Connor McDavid.

Now we have Hyman finally back healthy.

so you know, that's something that can help out.

It is, it's very interesting because, I mean, the Oilers have tried things this year, right?

And, and some of them just didn't work out, right?

An- Andrew Mangiapane, that didn't work out.

No.

Isaac Howard, Matt Savoie probably needed a little bit more time.

Um- Mm-hmm so, you know, you, you try things and, and sometimes they, they don't work the way you think they do.

but it will be interesting to see, you know, in the sort of post-mortems, how the Oilers approach this deadline.
