White Sox Finalize Roster After MLB Trade Deadline
The White Sox activated all four of their trade deadline additions while making several notable decisions at catcher, in the bullpen and in the outfield.

Following the MLB trade deadline, the Chicago White Sox made some roster moves to lock in their 26-man active roster before a big series this week with the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park.
All four additions made by the White Sox, catcher Joey Bart, right-handed pitchers Luis Castillo and Huascar Brazoban, and outfielder Brenton Doyle, have been added to the active roster.
The White Sox needed to clear two roster spots to get these four guys because they did trade from the active roster to bring everybody in.
They found those roster spots by optioning Edgar Caro and Tyler Schweitzer to Triple-A.
Caro replaced by Bart.
White Sox got him from the Braves.
He figures to take the lion's share of catching responsibilities moving forward, with Drew Romo as the backup.
Why Caro going down instead of Romo?
The same reason they sent Caro down before, an opportunity to get regular at-bats and develop through what has been a really rough 2026 season.
Also, defense.
Drew Romo is at least an average defender.
He's got negative zero point one F-WAR in 2026.
Caro is negative zero point seven F-WAR.
Far more detrimental because he's proven to be one of the worst defensive catchers in the sport.
So as the White Sox tread water and wait for Kyle Teal to return, at least they can get some average defense from Romo when he's in the lineup.
Schweitzer, optioned to Triple-A Charlotte, is effectively being replaced by Erick Fedde.
The White Sox announced that Luis Castillo is joining the rotation.
Erick Fedde is going to the bullpen and serving as that multi-inning mop-up duty reliever, a role that Schweitzer has filled very well so far in 2026.
But Fedde should be able to do a solid job as well.
He brings that veteran leadership, steadiness, the ability to make a spot start when needed, and ultimately is a guy the White Sox want to keep around.
Schweitzer can be optioned cleanly.
The other notable roster s- decision, though, comes in the outfield because Brenton Doyle was activated.
He is placed on the active roster despite having minor league options, so Chicago is choosing the new addition over Austin Hayes in the outfield.
Hayes has been on that rehab assignment.
He's ready to come back.
The White Sox haven't promoted him.
They chose Everson Pereira over Hayes, then designated Everson Pereira for assignment, and Hayes remains in the minor leagues here.
One concern, the bench.
Because against right-handed pitching, the players who would be on the bench and not in the starting lineup, Acua, Doyle, Romo, all of those guys have a, have an OPS under 600.
Then there's Randall Grichuk, but not much offense on the White Sox bench, with a bit of redundancy in Brenton Doyle and Luis Angel Acua.
So an interesting choice that the White Sox made to the outfield, but keep your head on a swivel.
We could see a handful of players make a White Sox debut soon, this week at Fenway Park.
Doyle, Joey Bart, Brazoban for certain.
On Thursday, Luis Castillo makes his first start in a White Sox uniform, so plenty to be excited about with another big week of White Sox baseball ahead.
