Maria Taylor, Cheryl Miller and Sue Bird talk with Aces' A'ja Wilson after Las Vegas' 85-84 win over the Atlanta Dream.
Video Transcript
All right, so the Aces have won four straight games, and we get their four-time MVP, A'ja Wilson, joining us now.
A'ja, first of all, thanks for coming back out.
I know it was a little bit of a scare towards the end of that game.
Yes.
Y'all decided to let them take the lead with 22 seconds left, so come on, take me back- to when you're watching Chelsea Gray get back into the paint and basically hit the go-ahead jumper.
Sh.
I just knew I needed to get out of the way.
Chelsea, I just knew I just need to get out the way and just make sure I could get a rebound.
But when it's in the Chelsea, when it's in Chelsea Gray's hand, I don't worry about it at all.
Okay.
I'm grateful that she's on our team, and, you know, that she's our leader.
She's our point guard, and, she led us to victory.
Hey, A'ja, this is Cheryl Miller.
Talk about this team's- Yeah mentality this season on the road and winning- Yeah and last year's team on the road.
Yeah, I think the biggest thing we were just focusing on is not folding, and not having to start like we did last season.
We have to know the importance of how, how important these games are.
Like, we can't look at game 33 and be like, "Okay, now it's time to get going."
Like, no, we have to start out, really locked in, especially being on the road.
And I love playing in these atmospheres, the home openers.
we gotta get ready, and we feed off of that energy as well.
So I think this year versus last year, we're just ready.
We're just not trying to fold.
Yeah.
Hey, A'ja.
It's Sue.
Congrats on the win.
you talk about not folding.
Something that teams have a tendency to do is fold when another team's top player is out.
Mm-hmm.
So take me inside- Yeah the locker room.
Rhyne Howard's out with a concussion.
They don't have Bri Jones yet.
How are you guys talking about going against a team that doesn't have two of their top players?
I mean, we're ju- just locked into our locker room.
that's tough, and obviously we hate that they're out for injury, but for us, we just gotta worry about us and our system and always upholding our standard, and not really focused on who's playing, more so on what we have going on.
And, it's kinda hard obviously because their, their locker room is next man up.
that mentality is so hard to match.
but for us, we just focus on making sure we do the little things on both ends of the basketball.
A'ja, real quick, you needed 18 points to pass Becky.
You got 20.
Did you hit her with a, "Sorry, sis," or what happened?
I'm about to.
I'm about to.
I'm about to.
Ah!
I love breaking records, but Becky's record, give me that.
Give me that.
All right, we appreciate the time, A- A'ja.
Thank you.
Congratulations on the win.
Thank you, guys.
Again, it's four straight wins for the Aces.
A'ja Wilson with 20 points in this one, and it wasn't easy, okay?
The Aces had to put in work to get it done.
A'ja needed 18 points to pass her head coach, Becky Hammond, and ladies and gentlemen, she has pulled it off, and this is just the beginning for A'ja.
Oh, yes.
Oh.
I feel like we're gonna be looking at this a lot this season.
You think so?
Yeah.
Just, like, toppling down the numbers.
I'm bad at math, but she's not that far.
and we always like to tell everybody- Yeah she's not even 30 yet, Cheryl.
Mm-mm.
So.
More records to fall.
I, I don't know what prime is, but she is in the middle of it, and it's gonna keep on climbing
