- Why Nick Saban didn't call Kalen DeBoer after Alabama football loss to Vanderbilt
Nick Saban did not talk to Kalen DeBoer after his first loss with Alabama football .
After the Crimson Tide fell to Vanderbilt 40-35 last Saturday, Saban, on "The Pat McAfee Show" said he did not want to "get in the way this time" as Alabama navigated the first loss of the DeBoer era.
"I always put a lot of pressure on the assistant coaches because they are kind of your lieutenants to get the message to the team," Saban said. "And I think Kalen's been doing a good job of getting the message to the team. But everybody in the organization has to reinforce that because they are the people that sit in the meetings every day with the players. And they have to impact that."
Saban said he watched the recording back of Alabama vs. Vanderbilt , which he said was "really hard." But he gave credit to Vanderbilt.
"It is awesome," Saban said. "And I think it's good for the SEC if Vanderbilt is good and has hope and has a chance. And I think they do. The quarterback, their offense, they have done a really good job this year... I mean, they beat Virginia Tech . That's a significant accomplishment as well. I think they do have hope for hopefully having a chance to have a winning season."
Saban was then asked about the video Vanderbilt played as fans stormed the field after the Commodores upset win where he said the "only place you play in the SEC that's not hard to play is in Vanderbilt."
If anything, Saban doubled down.
"If you looked at the stadium, half of it was Alabama," he said.
Alabama takes on South Carolina at 11 a.m. Saturday.
