Easy Anti-Cheat Users Can Now Install Windows 11 24H2

Microsoft has lifted a restriction that blocked users with Easy Anti-Cheat from installing the Windows 11 2024 Update (version 24H2). The block was originally placed after users reported Blue Screen of Death errors and system restarts caused by conflicts between the update and the anti-cheat system. These issues were common on devices running Intel Alder Lake+ and vPro processors and affected games that use Easy Anti-Cheat, such as Apex Legends, Fortnite, War Thunder, ELDEN RING, and NBA 2K25.

In June, Microsoft released update KB5063060 to fix this issue on systems running version 24H2. The issue caused crashes with ntoskrnl.exe and EasyAntiCheat_EOS.exe. This led to system instability when trying to launch certain games. On July 24—more than a month after releasing the fix—Microsoft finally confirmed that the safeguard had been lifted, reports Bleeping Computer.

Now, systems not affected by other update freezes can receive version 24H2 through Windows Update. Users may still receive warnings about an outdated Easy Anti-Cheat version; if so, they should launch and update the affected games. The company also clarified that outdated versions of Easy Anti-Cheat will not cause crashes unless the related game is running. This lets gaming PCs move to the new Windows version safely, as long as their anti-cheat software is up to date.
