Shanghai Scene: What’s New?
From Chanel's blockbuster Le19M exhibition to a secondhand vintage revival, here are the must-visit locales during Shanghai Fashion Week .
Where to Shop

Arch Goat
Arch Goat
The archival store, which specializes in hard-to-find runway looks, particularly those from Chanel, Saint Laurent and Jean Paul Gaultier, reflects its owner, Gen Z couture collector Jason Xue's love for serious Y2K fashion. The 600-square-meter, three-story store, recently visited by Kim Kardashian, is particularly attractive to Chanel lovers — with the brand's square-logoed Sports Collection from the early 2000s presented in full, a dedicated menswear area featuring Chanel jackets that run up to size 50, and even a Chanel guitar. In addition, more contemporary and commercial pieces, such as Sabato de Sarno's Gucci and Maria Grazia Churi's Dior, round out an area which Xue cheekily calls the "flea market."

Super Zhuan
Shanghai's vintage revival began in earnest with the opening of a Zhuanzhuan flagship downtown. The 5,000-square-meter, warehouse-style venue is home to all kinds of secondhand goods, ranging from Hermès Birkins and Chanel Classic Flap bags to Nintendo game consoles and Leica cameras. The Beijing-based company was launched 10 years ago as a secondhand iPhone dealer and quickly grew into a dominant player in the space.

Archivism Market
Shanghai has long lacked its own Dover Street Market, a point of quiet frustration for the Chinese fashion capital. But now, Archivism Market is offering an alternative. Founded by the Chinese fashion researcher and collector Brain La, who was deeply influenced by Rei Kawakubo's rebellious approach to retail, the project pairs an exhibition of Comme des Garçons' greatest runway hits with a maze-like retail space stocked with coveted pieces from Phoebe Philo-era Celine, Jean Paul Gaultier, Prada and more. Dubbed "Built for Chaos," the ambitious undertaking was inspired by Dover's "Beautiful Chaos" philosophy.

Hanro
Holy Good Canteen
There's no better way to cap off the day than with a hearty serving of Cantonese-style chicken hotpot within a neon-drenched setting, reminiscent of Hong Kong's 1970s al fresco dining culture. Serving familiar flavors, the restaurant also offers a generous lineup of cold dishes, wok-fried plates, barbecued skewers, among other classic dishes.

Soae
The Sichuan-flavored fusion restaurant, designed as an urban enclave, brings natural fermentation and spicy cuisine with east-meet-west sensibility. Dishes such as beef mantou, its interpretation of the Chinese hamburger, thousand-year-old egg and ricotta, passion fruit fish maw noodles, and a generous offering of spicy Yakitori skewers, sums up its imaginative and bold offerings.

Icicle Cultural Space: 'Room of One's Own'
In a deeply personal exhibition, the enigmatic French photographer Ilion Huit, who prefers to hide behind his Leica M6, unveiled to the world his most intimate interior musings in an exhibition at Icicle Cultural Space in Shanghai. Inspired by Virginia Woolf's seminal work, the exhibition counts 25 recent photography works that capture poetic moments such as Huit's daughter lost in deep thought; Sissinghurst, the historic home of Vita Sackville-West, poet and lover of Virginia Woolf; ephemeral landscapes often framed by windows, and finally, skies and clouds that seem to expand into infinity.
La Galerie Du 19M Shanghai
Chanel's Le19M creative hub has traveled to Shanghai for the first time with an ambitious exhibition that brings the brand's unique production system to life via the work of Chinese artists, makers, and craftsmen. The free exhibition, which spans the entire third floor of the Museum of Art Pudong, brings together the storied craftsmanship of Lesage, Montex, Goossens, Lognon and more alongside more than 31 creative guests from China and France, and is accompanied by a traveling exhibition that marks Maison Lesage's 100th anniversary.
