Think an international vacation automatically requires a four-figure airfare? Think again. New data from Kayak reveals a handful of destinations where $1,000 can cover round-trip airfare and several nights in a hotel this fall—and, in some cases, leave some spending money to spare. The findings are based on Kayak searches conducted between June 1 and Aug. 23, 2026, for economy round-trip flights departing from U.S. airports between Sept. 15 and Nov. 15, 2026, as well as hotel stays during the same fall travel period.
"A thousand dollars can still go a long way on an international getaway this fall," says Yvonne Bonanati, the company's travel trends expert. For example, Guadalajara is the standout for value, with round-trip airfare averaging $371 and hotels averaging $91 per night, putting a five-night trip at around $826 for flights and accommodations alone. Calgary is another wallet-friendly option, with average airfare of $400 and hotel rooms averaging $122 per night.
There's plenty more to choose from, too. Three Colombian cities make the cut, alongside two Canadian favorites plus picks across Mexico and the Caribbean. So whether you're after fall foliage, great food, a culture-packed city break, or a few days by the water, there's an option here that can keep airfare and accommodations around the $1,000 mark.
