Delta just made it easier to fly business class. Here's what to know about booking 'Basic Business'
Want to stretch out in the business cabin without paying full price? Delta's new fare options make this possible — with a few catches.

Delta isn't the first commercial airline to open up its premium cabin. In April 2026, United introduced lower-cost "Base" fares for its Polaris business class, the airline's most premium cabin and in-flight experience. Now, Delta is following suit with the expansion of its Basic fares across all ticket categories, including business class.
Wondering what this all means? Here's a simple breakdown of Delta's newest fares, focusing on the perks and drawbacks of Basic Business.
What Delta is launching
On July 8, Delta announced that it's expanding its Basic fare options to its premium seats and cabins. This means three new fare categories: Delta Premium Select Basic, Delta First Basic and Basic Business (the "basic" version of Delta One ). Delta First Basic is available and flying in select Delta markets now. Basic Business and Delta Premium Select Basic are available for purchase, but services won't begin until September 2026.
Basic Business is getting the most attention. This new option lets you book a lie-flat seat in Delta One, the airline's most premium cabin, for less. But with this latest announcement, Delta now offers Basic ticket options for every fare type, not just business class. Ideally, this means more flexibility and pricing options for customers, but it comes with some trade-offs.
What does 'Basic Business' really mean?
Delta's Basic Business fare is the new entry-level tier for the airline's most luxurious cabin. By purchasing a Basic Business ticket, you'll get access to the Delta One cabin and all of its standard amenities, with a few caveats.
Here's everything Basic Business includes:
-
A lie-flat seat in the Delta One cabin (plus privacy dividers on some planes)
-
Zone 1 boarding
-
One fewer complimentary checked bag than Delta One Classic (baggage allowance varies by route)
-
Complimentary three-course meals, beer, spirits and wine on board
-
Hot towel service, premium bedding and a Missoni skin care kit
-
2x Delta SkyMiles per eligible dollar spent
-
Flight changes (for a fee)
-
Cancellations (for a fee; remaining value is issued as an eCredit)
-
Access to Sky Priority services
Basic Business will also include Delta One check-in and access to the Delta One Lounge through January 18, 2027. After that date, these perks will only be included with Delta One Classic and Delta One Extra.
What Basic Business does not include:
-
Delta One check-in or lounge access after January 18, 2027
-
Seat selection (though paid seat selection may be available for some tickets)
-
Same-day flight changes or fee-free changes
-
Complimentary or paid upgrades
How soon can you book a Basic Business seat?
Depending on where you're headed and when, you can already book a Basic Business ticket for domestic and select international flights through Delta. That said, these fares are only available for flights booked for September 2026 and beyond. Delta First Basic flights are already in the air.
Make the most of Basic Business by booking a flight for any date between Sept. 2026 and Jan. 18, 2027. This will get you access to certain perks and amenities that will no longer be available to Basic ticket holders after that date.
