See Sistine Chapel frescoes without going to Rome at this Cambridge exhibition
Starting this February, people in the Boston area may not have to travel all the way to Vatican City to see Renaissance artist Michelangelo's Sistine Chapel frescoes up close and personal thanks to a new art exhibition.
Set to open Thursday, Feb. 12 at the CambridgeSide mall, " Michelangelo's Sistine Chapel: The Exhibition " will showcase all 34 of the artist's ceiling and altar masterpieces "faithfully" recreated, the art exhibition announced Jan. 29.
The exhibition said that these licensed, high-resolution, life-size scale image reproductions are rendered to provide "vivid detail, allowing visitors to explore the emotion, depth, and artistry of the Vatican's most celebrated space — without crowds, time limits, or a trip to Rome."
These include the most famous of Michelangelo's works like "The Last Judgment" and "The Creation of Adam."
There will also be signage posted and audio guides available for guests to better understand the art they see.
The exhibition is set to run for "a limited time" until Sunday, May 10. Tickets are currently 20% off for those who buy now until Monday, Feb. 16.
"Whether you're an art lover, history enthusiast, or someone encountering this masterpiece for the first time, this exhibition allows you to experience Michelangelo's genius in an intimate and unforgettable way," said Martin Biallas, CEO of SEE Global Entertainment, the exhibition's producer, in a statement.
The exhibition will be open Wednesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., with last entry at 6:30 p.m. On Sundays, the exhibition will be open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., with last entry at 4:30 p.m.
Guests can find the exhibition on the second floor of CambridgeSide above the shopping center's food hall.
The mall is situated at 100 CambridgeSide Place. It is located northeast of Kendall Square and adjacent to the Charles River, the Museum of Science and the Lechmere MBTA Green Line station in East Cambridge.
Tickets for the exhibition start at $28 for general admission, with discounts for seniors, students, children and military members. Special VIP tickets give guests priority access and a souvenir guidebook.
