You may think your town loves New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye . But has it ever tried to change its name as a tribute to him?
The town of Maynard has a plan to do just that by changing its name to MAYEnard for the day on Super Bowl Sunday. The move is pending approval from the Select Board.
On Thursday, the town of Maynard announced its plan, which would change the name of the town on Sunday, Feb. 8, the day the Patriots are set to play the Seattle Seahawks in Super Bowl LV.
“The name change is, of course, a tribute to Patriots quarterback Drake Maye , who will lead the team as they seek their seventh championship title,” the town wrote in a press release.
The Maynard Select Board is scheduled to vote on the proposed name change during its meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 3, starting at 7 p.m.
In just his second season, the 23-year-old Maye has become one of the most beloved sports figures in New England . The No. 3 overall pick in 2024, Maye has been instrumental in the Patriots’ turnaround season in 2025.
Considered to be one of the league’s top MVP candidates, Maye led the NFL in completion percentage, passer rating and yards per attempt in 2025 and was named to his second Pro Bowl.
Under the team’s new head coach, Mike Vrabel, the Patriots won 14 games during the regular season. After rattling off three more wins in the playoffs, New England is off to take on Seattle in Super Bowl LV in Santa Clara, California.
