Costco confirms new store coming to Central Mass. town
Costco is moving forward on building its first store in Central Massachusetts, a representative for the company recently told town officials.
Attorney John Weaver told Southborough Planning Board members in January that the company is looking forward to getting the ball rolling on the project.
The development firm responsible for building the new Costco is the Framingham-based Atlantic Management Corp. On Jan. 30, the firm signed a deed for the site of the proposed superstore at 21 Coslin Dr. in Southborough, off of Route 9 westbound near the interchange with Interstate 495, according to the Worcester Registry of Deeds.
Robert Buckley, who represents Atlantic Management Corp., told the planning board during the meeting that he expects to submit a comprehensive site plan and traffic plan soon.
In October 2025, a town meeting was held to vote on a zoning change that would allow the development to go forward. Of the 783 Town Meeting members, 771 voted in favor of the change and 12 voted against.
The Attorney General's Office is required to approve the zoning change before it can go into effect. Planning Board members are still awaiting a ruling.
The Southborough select board previously told MassLive it expects the Costco to be open by the summer of 2027.
There are currently seven Costcos in Massachusetts, located in Avon, Danvers, Dedham, Everett, Sharon, Waltham and West Springfield.
This would make Southborough the first Central Massachusetts community to have a Costco .
