Donald Trump approval: 2025 month-by-month numbers show massive shift
President Donald Trump saw big movement in the polls in his first year of his second term in office — but probably not the movement he wanted.
From January to December 2025, Trump's approval rating dropped by an average of about 10% across multiple polling firms.
Reuters, The Economist/YouGov and Gallup released monthly polls of Trump's approval rating throughout 2025.
A combined average of the polls finds Trump's 2025 approval rating at 42%.
Below is a chart featuring Trump's monthly approval rating from Reuters, Gallup and The Economist/YouGov respectively. The chart can also be viewed here .
The polls found Trump's approval rating starting near or at 50% at the beginning of his term.
By April, the month Trump announced the implementation of tariffs on more than 100 countries, his approval rating dropped by five percentage points in Reuters's poll, three percentage points in Gallup's and seven percentage points in the Economist/YouGov.
Surveys have found that Americans largely disapprove of the tariffs and associate them with increasing costs.
The Economist/YouGov polls show Trump's approval rebounding in May, June and July but polls from Reuters and Gallup saw the president's approval worsen, with Gallup finding him under 40% approval for the first time during his second term.
By the end of the year, Gallup and Reuters found Trump with an approval rating under 40%. The Economist/YouGov, meanwhile, found Trump with a 42% approval rating.
