Famous Boston-area ice cream chain closes location after 20 years
J.P. Licks has shut down one of its locations after two decades.
The J.P. Licks at One Brigham Circle in Mission Hill in Boston was closed for good as of June 25, according to a statement sent to MassLive that was also shared on the chain's website .
"After more than 20 wonderful years serving the Mission Hill community, J.P. Licks has officially closed our location at One Brigham Circle following the end of our lease," the statement read.
"We are deeply grateful for the many memories and the loyal customers who've supported us throughout the years," it continued. "Mission Hill will always hold a special place in our hearts, and though we'll miss being part of this vibrant neighborhood ... Thank you for the decades of scoops, smiles and community."
Founded in 1981 in Jamaica Plain, J.P. Licks has 16 locations across Greater Boston, including Brookline, Somerville, Cambridge, Wellesley, Newton, Andover, Lynnfield and Dedham. The company makes all of its ice cream and ice cream cakes in-house at the original location and ships coffee and merchandise across the continental U.S.
The famous ice cream chain has earned a Best of Boston 2021 award from Boston Magazine and has received over 300 "Best of" awards over the last 43 years. J.P. Licks was also named the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce's 2006 "Small Business of the Year."
