Go-to Greek bar, restaurant just outside Boston closing soon after 13 years
A Somerville restaurant and bar known for its Greek fare and casual setting will close this month after more than a decade.
Daddy Jones in Magoun Square will close on Saturday, Dec. 20 "after 13 unforgettable years," owner Dimitra Murphy wrote in an Facebook post on Tuesday night, Dec. 9.
"We are feeling every emotion at once, but the biggest one is gratitude," Murphy wrote. "Thank you for showing up for us through every season. Thank you for the date nights that turned into engagement parties and then first birthdays. Thank you for the 'just one drink' nights, the gyro cravings, the holiday parties, and all the moments in between. You filled this place with life."
Daddy Jones opened in November 2012, according to Yelp . The eatery is known for serving casual Greek food and cocktails in addition to hosting Thursday night trivia and Sunday night suppers. Daddy Jones was also a common Somerville destination for outdoor dining during the summer.
Murphy said the restaurant "began as a little idea one mile from where I grew up and it thrived because of the community."
Many loyal patrons were saddened by the news of Daddy Jones' impending closure.
"Omg I'm devastated!!," an Instagram user commented . "One of my favorite Somerville restaurants and my FAVORITE falafel gyro. Wow. You will be greatly missed."
Another commenter wrote, "You brought 13 years of culinary joy to Somerville and everyone who's tasted the happiness you served. Will miss you."
"Closing our doors is not the end of what we built together. It is the end of a chapter that was filled with laughter, hard work, community, and so much heart. We are walking away grateful for every person who pulled up a chair, worked a shift, poured a drink, shared a meal, or simply cheered us on," Murphy wrote on Facebook. "Thank you for 13 years of love. Thank you for the warm memories we are blessed to have."
Daddy Jones will host throwback nights with former staff leading up to the restaurant's last day. Diners are encouraged to stop by.
Daddy Jones is located at 525 Medford St., Somerville.
