Mass. weather: Storm to hit eastern coast with snow, strong winds
A storm passing offshore of southern New England on Sunday will bring some accumulating snow, strong winds, and coastal flooding to the eastern part of the state, especially on Cape Cod and the Islands.
Western Massachusetts and the interior parts will see frigid temperatures and with dangerous wind chills plunging to minus 5 to minus 10 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.
Most areas in eastern Massachusetts are expected to see 1 to 3 inches of snow, while Nantucket could see up to 4 inches.
Snow is expected to be intermittent and showery rather than steady, forecasters say.
Gusts of wind could reach up to 45 to 50 mph by afternoon and early evening across Cape Cod and the Islands. The strongest winds are expected on Nantucket.
The strong winds could cause power outages and bringing down tree limbs, along with blowing and drifting snow, forecasters say.
The eastern coast could see minor flooding of 1 to 2 feet of inundation, forecasters say, while Nantucket may see moderate coastal flooding.
Beach erosion is likely with waves reaching around 20 feet, according to forecasters.
