Nantucket, Martha's Vineyard ferry routes disrupted by Hurricane Erin Friday
The effects of Hurricane Erin will result in the disruption of regular and high-speed ferry services from Hyannis to Nantucket, according to the Massachusetts Steamship Authority .
While the hurricane's influence will start to diminish on Friday, the National Weather Service forecasters have issued advisories for coastal flooding, wind and high surf.
A Coastal Flood Advisory is in place for Martha's Vineyard, Nantucket and parts of the South Coast.
The steamship authority has posted a travel advisory on their website, stating that ferries on the Hyannis-Nantucket route will be disrupted. The effects of the hurricane indicate that the service to Oak Bluffs will be diverted to Vineyard Haven most of the day on Friday on the Martha's Vineyard-Woods Hole route, the travel advisory reads.
Because of the forecast, the steamship authority will waive change and cancellation fees for all travel scheduled for Friday.
The hurricane's impacts on the waters are expected to diminish starting Saturday night and going into Sunday due to Erin's move into the North Atlantic.
