Top bagel bakery in Boston area eyeing second location in Somerville

One of the best places for bagels around Boston is looking to expand.

Kupel's Bakery wants to open a new shop in Somerville, according to an agenda from a Zoom neighborhood meeting on Tuesday.

The agenda indicates that Kupel's has "a plan to establish a bakery, café and coffee shop" at 54A Elm St. in Somerville. The project has yet to be approved.

Located at 421 Harvard St. in Brookline, the Jewish bakery has been making kosher bagels since 1978, according to Kupel's website . The shop has routinely been recognized as one of the best bagel shops in the Boston area.

Kupel's offers traditional Jewish breads and pastries in addition to bagels and spreads.
