PharmD Student Participates in Inter Professional Case Discussion

The College of Pharmacy’s final year Pharm D student, Ms. Nouran Essam Atta participated in the First Interprofessional case discussion conducted at Thumbay Hospital, Ajman on October 30, 2017.

A case of pediatric bronchopneumonia was presented by students from College of Pharmacy, College of Health Sciences and College of Medicine.

Ms. Nouran presented on the clinical pharmacist’s perspective of the case in relation to the pharmacotherapy of the case and elaborated on causative organisms, prevalence and therapeutic options available for a patient with bronchopneumonia. She also provided latest guidelines and literature supporting her critical assessment of the case and highlighted the treatment choices for methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus .

It was clear from the presentation and discussions that the students worked together on the case in a way that enhanced their learning and brought about the appreciation of all of them to their respective roles as partners in patient care.

The Dean and faculty members of the College of Pharmacy indicated that this interprofessional education (IPE) event is an important milestone in quality improvement of the PharmD curriculum delivery and in meeting the IPE accreditation requirement.
