At Clearview Elementary School in Herndon, Virginia, we are thrilled to announce our official status as an AVID Elementary school! AVID— Advancement Via Individual Determination—is a nationally recognized program designed to equip students with the skills and mindset they need to succeed in school, college, careers, and life.

What is AVID for Elementary?

AVID Elementary is designed for all studentsand focuses on teaching academic habits at an early age. This includes critical thinking, organization, collaboration, and goal setting—skills that build a strong foundation for lifelong learning. The AVID framework is embedded throughout the school day, and students learn how to take ownership of their learning, reflect on their progress, and set goals for their future.

What is WICOR?

A key component of AVID is WICOR, which stands for:

• Writing: Strengthening communication and processing of information.
• Inquiry: Encouraging curiosity and deeper thinking through questioning.
• Collaboration: Learning with and from others to solve problems and grow together.
• Organization: Managing time, materials, and goals to build independence.
