Students at West Springfield are tested in many areas throughout the year as a part of the teaching and learning cycle. Some of the Virginia and Fairfax County assessments WSES students take include:
- VALLSS (Virginia Language and Literacy Screening System) for grades K-2 and some students on 3-6
- iReady Universal Screener for Reading for grade 3-6 students
- EMAS (Early Mathematics Assessment System) for students in kindergarten
- MAP (Measures of Academic Progress) Growth for math for grade 1-6 students
- Grades 3-6 SOL (Standards of Learning) tests for math and reading in grades 3-6, plus science in grade 5
- FCPS Systemwide Common Assessments for every math and reading unit in grades K-6, and for science in grades 4-6
- NGAT (Naglieri General Ability Tests) for grade 2 students and students new to FCPS in grades 3-6
- WIDA for Multilingual Learners
- Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) Screener in grades 3-6

- Purpose of test,
- Time of year when test is typically scheduled, and
- Estimated amount of time student will need to take test.
