School Counselors

From the American School Counseling Association: School counselors are certified/licensed educators with a minimum of a master’s degree in school counseling, making them uniquely qualified to address all students’ academic, career and social/emotional development needs by designing, implementing, evaluating and enhancing a comprehensive school counseling program that promotes and enhances student success.

School Social Workers

School Social Workers support students within the education setting by:

  • Conducting sociocultural assessments to assist in determining eligibility for  special education  or  Section 504  services
  • Participating in student-centered meetings to address academic, mental health, and behavioral needs within the  Responsive Instruction  tiered system of supports
  • Providing crisis interventions to include conducting suicide risk assessments and  threat assessments
  • Collaborating with School Counselors and School Social Workers to conduct mental wellness screenings at the secondary level to identify students who may require additional outside mental health supports and resources
  • Connecting students who are unable to attend school due to a prolonged illness with  Out-of-School Support  services and support their transition back to school settings through the  Return to Learn  process
  • Connecting families who are in need of food, shelter, and mental health services

Social Workers

School Psychologists

School Psychologists support students within the education setting by:

  • Conducting psychological evaluation, utilizing assessment tools reviewed for reliability & validity and approved by a multidisciplinary committee, in order to assist in determining eligibility for  special education  or  Section 504  services
  • Participating in student-centered meetings to support a Functional Behavior Analysis & Behavior Intervention Plan for special education students
  • Collaborating with School Counselors and School Social Workers to conduct mental wellness screenings at the secondary level to identify students who may require additional outside mental health supports and resources
  • Providing crisis interventions to include conducting suicide risk assessments and  threat assessments
  • Providing counseling hours for special education students as determined by the student's Individual Educational Plan (IEP)
  • Connecting families who are in need of food, shelter, and mental health services
