2026 Virginia Summer Residential Governor’s School (SRGS)

The Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) offers the opportunity for 10th and 11th grade students to apply to attend summer residential Governor’s schools in Academics and Visual and Performing Arts (VPA). Students who are accepted into one of the programs will live in residence halls in one of the state colleges in VA for three weeks in the June - July timeframe. Sophomores and Juniors who might like to apply for SRGS are encouraged to  attend the Madison High School interest meetingwhich will take place on Friday, October 17, during Warhawk Time, in Town Hall. The application process will be discussed at the interest meeting. Students who are unable to attend the meeting will still be able to participate in the application process. Details about the process can be found in the  JMHS Student Services Schoology course , following the interest meeting. 

To be considered for an academic or VPA Governor’s school, students must complete the steps below by 3 PM on Wednesday, November 5, 2025. A link to the checklist is available here .

1.) Complete and Submit Online Google Interest Form

2.) Pre-Screening Packet (portions of the VDOE Governor’s School application)

  • Go to the  VDOE SRGS Website and locate the application for the program to which you are applying and complete the sections listed below.
    • Applicant Information (Sections 1-3)
      • Include applicant, high school and recommender information.
    • Resume (Section 4)
      • For each section, pick THREE  of your most meaningful and related activities/ experiences – feel free to include/describe how each is meaningful.  Do NOT include more than 3.
    • Assurances and Acknowledgments (Section 6)
  • Please type/save/printall pages.
    • Make sure to save the documentfor later – these are sections also needed for the VDOE application if you move on to the state level.

Turn in the completed packet to Ms. Kennedy or Ms. Toomey IN PERSON.
