Rising country star Dasha made headlines on Thursday night (Sept. 26) after winning Female Song of 2024 at the People’s Choice Country Awards .
The event, held at the famous Grand Ole Opry House in Nashville, left everyone in shock—especially Dasha herself.
Dasha’s song “ Austin (Boots Stop Workin’) “ took home the award, beating out some of country music’s biggest names, including Beyoncé, Miranda Lambert, and Lainey Wilson.
This win was a huge surprise, considering Dasha is a newer face in the country music world.
Many expected one of the veteran superstars to take the award , but it was Dasha’s heartfelt song that won the hearts of fans.
The song, which Dasha wrote with a “big broken heart,” became a viral sensation on TikTok.
The catchy tune and line dance she created for it took off, helping her build a fan base even when she was still an independent artist without a big music label behind her.
When her name was announced, Dasha couldn’t believe it.
She looked surprised as she walked up to the stage and even once at the microphone, she seemed stunned.
She shared her excitement with the audience, saying, “I felt like a rookie this year, and you guys have just opened your arms.”
Dasha took a moment to reflect on how much has changed for her in just one year.
She told the crowd how she was once an independent artist with no record label or manager.
She wrote her winning song with some close friends, not knowing that it would change her life.
“I had no label, no management, and everything has changed this year,” she said.
She also thanked her original team, calling them her “OG team,” for sticking with her through it all.
Dasha’s hit song “Austin” originated from an abandoned project titled “Play Dumb,” which dealt with themes of infidelity that she found hard to relate to.
Instead of discarding the concept entirely, Dasha and her co-writers transformed the initial idea into a spirited, upbeat tune with a “boot-clappy” and bold vibe, channeling the perspective of a strong woman dealing with an unreliable lover.
Released on November 17, 2023, the song gained widespread attention after going viral on TikTok in March 2024, where it was featured in over 750,000 user-created videos.
As a result, it was rebranded as “Austin (Boots Stop Workin’)” on digital platforms by May 2024.
Dasha’s breakout performances of the song at the CMT Music Awards and her debut at the Grand Ole Opry further solidified its success, with fans eagerly embracing both “Austin” and her rising star.
Dasha wasn’t the only new artist to take home a trophy.
The 2024 People’s Choice Country Awards was a night full of first-time wins.
Shaboozey, another up-and-coming artist, won his first major country award earlier in the evening.
Even more surprising, Machine Gun Kelly took home an award for his collaboration with Jelly Roll on the song “ Lonely Road .”
The People’s Choice Country Awards, which aired live on NBC and streamed on Peacock, was full of memorable moments.
But Dasha’s win was definitely one of the biggest surprises of the night.
Fans are already excited to see what she does next, as it’s clear that Dasha is just getting started in her country music career .
With her mix of raw talent and a loyal fan base, Dasha’s future in country music looks very bright!
