This year just got even better. First, we get the news of a possible Princess Diaries threequel, and now a sequel for The Devil Wears Prada, too?
The news started circulating on the internet after Emily subtly hinted at the possibility of a sequel in development. To find out more about this news, keep reading.
We all remember Emily Blunt from Devil Wears Prada, right? She played the sharp and witty Emily Charlton, an ambitious and intelligent senior assistant working at Runway Magazine. Emily nailed her character.
This role perfectly showcased Blunt’s versatility as an actor. She earned critical praise and a strong standing in Hollywood.
Emily Blunt told the Red Sea International Film Festival crowd in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, “There are rumblings.”
The actress went on to say, “There is stuff churning around. But I don’t know if I can confirm anything. But we would all be delighted.” It’s safe to say that we’re more than delighted to hear this news.
Emily’s co-star, Stanley Tucci, gave further details, saying, “If it does happen, I can only say that I’ll be happy.”
“I don’t really know. I haven’t [heard] about the plot or anything. I really haven’t.” Stanley played the beloved role of Nigel in Devil’s Wear Prada, a kind-hearted and stylish personality that won the hearts of viewers.
Disney has started putting in the work with this sequel as cast and production decisions are already in process. line Brosh McKenna, the writer of the original 2006 film, is working on a follow-up with Disney.
McKenna’s return has spread optimism among fans as she is known for not disappointing fans with her work. The writer was also behind “Your Place or Mine”, “27 Dresses”, and many more.
Talks are taking place between the original movie producer, Wendy Finerman, and director, David Frankel. Wendy Finerman played a huge role in shaping the iconic film, including its catchy narrative and sharp humor.
Similarly, David Frankel was the man behind the perfect execution of Meryl Streep’s character. A collaboration between Frankel and Finerman means the sequel won’t be losing its authenticity.
Discussions are underway to bring back the original cast for the sequel. You know who we’re talking about.
Meryl Streep, who played the iconic role of Miranda Priestly, is central to the film. Similarly, the sequel needs to have Anne Hathaway for it to be as or more successful than the original film series.
Even though nothing has been confirmed as of yet, the possible storyline for Devil Wear’s Prada would revolve around Miranda and Emily adapting to the rapid fashion industry changes.
According to speculations and theories, the film could focus on Miranda’s ability to adapt to today’s social media-driven world. There are also high chances of new cast members being introduced to act as influencers and social media divas.
The original movie was released in 2006, earning a whopping $326 million worldwide. The film’s commercial success put it on everyone’s radar, cementing it as one of the highest-grossing comedy/romantic films of all time.
Streep’s portrayal of Miranda Priestly was widely acclaimed, earning her an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress. The film’s lines, such as “A million girls would kill for that job” or “That’s all,” became iconic and trendy.
The critical acclaim that the original film garnered over time, both at the time of release and over the years, has for sure set the standards high. This means that the new sequel has no room for disappointment.
The film as a whole was praised for its sharp script, clever direction, and the way it captured true fashion sense. The original’s success among critics, coupled with its commercial success, has set high expectations.
The original film became a cultural phenomenon in 2006. And since then, fans have been eagerly waiting for the possibility of a sequel.
Rumors of a follow-up have circulated over time, but Emily Blunt’s comments ignited the flame of expectations, and now fans want nothing but a sequel. Any news or hint has heightened the already magnified excitement amongst fans.
The original film, Devil’s Wear Prada was based on Lauren Weisberg’s best-selling novel released in 2003. The way Lauren masterfully captured the cutthroat fashion industry made it the perfect fit for a film adaptation.
Weisberg then wrote a sequel, Revenge Wears Prada: The Devil Returns. Published in 2013, the novel focused on Andy’s life after leaving Miranda’s shade.
Anne Hathaway shared her thoughts about the sequel, saying, “I just think that movie was in a different era.”
“Now, everything has gone so digital, and that movie centered around the concept of producing a physical thing, and it’s just very different now. It is tempting to think about Andy and Emily having to get Miranda her coffee, and she’s somewhere in Europe, and then along the way, they pick up Stanley Tucci in Italy, who’s at a restaurant.”
We haven’t received a sequel yet, but we did get a stage musical of the original film. In 2022, the film expanded into the iconic world of the theater.
The musical premiered in 2022, with original music that was composed by none other than the legendary Elton John. Vanessa Williams took on the iconic role of Miranda Priestly.
It should be noted that the sequel is in the early development stages. Nothing has been confirmed as of yet about the cast members, storyline, and overall theme of the film.
Given the success of the first film coupled with already buzzing fan excitement, a follow-up won’t take too long.

The original film continues to garner viewers as it is available on various streaming platforms like Netflix and Disney+. The new sequel, which is being produced in collaboration with Disney, will also be available on its platform.
